Do you remember roller skating when you were a kid? does your town still have a rink? Ours closed down about 10 years ago. We would have to travel about an hour and a half. Instead we now ice skate. We have a great ice rink here.
When I was a kid, we used to skate about three nights a week. Last time I went, about 10 years ago, I took my daughter, and wanted to show off. Turns out I really can not move now how I did when I was a kid. We both got a great laugh and I got a bit of humble pie!
Do you like to rollerskate?
rollerblade?
ice skate?
skate board?

Well I remember when you got skates that clamped onto your shoes. E would skate down the sidewalks and didn't go to rinks. I did go to an ice skating rink way back when I was about 9 years old (about 53 years ago). I spent more time on my butt than getting around the rink. I had an easier time rollerskating. There is a roller skating rink just down the road from us but my grandkids never got into it.

They were fun weren't they? You didn't have to be careful about the wheels so you could skate any where. And I do remember watching for the raised sidewalks. I got quit a few skinned knees while learning to stay on my feet. You had to have good soled shoes to keep them on too.

We had a roller skating rink only a block away and would go there all the time! I wish we still had something like that for my own kids. :(
Why don't they make roller skates with the 4 wheels anymore? I think that's crazy. I've never tried roller blades but my daughter has them and gets along just fine. She also ice skates with her Dad, another thing I've never had the opportunity to try.
She's much more coordinated than I am!

I remember those. I remember the big pair of roller skates that my moher bought me when Mom, my grandfather and I went to Demark. When I was litle I had some little Fisher Price skates that attached to my shoes, but the ones that Mom got me in Denmark were actual Runningshoe-type-rollerskates. They were a load of fun. I'm only twnty-six so it wasn't that long ago that roller skates had four wheels.

I can still remember opening up my first pair of roller skates. My mom and dad bought them for my birthday. I can't remember how old I was.
The skates were the clanky and clunky ones, designed to adjust to your shoe size and required a key. I didn't care. I remember how the sidewalk felt as I skated along the street. We didn't have a rink.
Later, I started ice skating. I skated at top speed, racing around on the outside lane, with all the other flying skaters. My parents set me up with lessons and I enjoyed them. finally it was time to try my first jump, and I fell, bracing my fall with outstretched arms.
I broke the left arm. I never cried and I finished my lesson.
A few years ago, many years since my childhood, I decided to ice skate again. Wow! How did my ankles support me as a kid? One swing around the rink reminded me I wasn't a kid anymore and I had to give up.
When my kids were growing up, we had a community roller skate rink near us. Every Tuesday was kids night and I drove my kids and a bunch of their friends to the rink on Tuesdays.
All that is past now and only lives in my memory. Oh well.

I use to roller skate a long time ago. It was fun, I can't roller blade so ice skating would be a butt busting good time. I always made sure I had on long pants too, skating with shorts and having those knee high tube socks, gad! What a site, this was before roller girl on Boogie Nights so unless you didn't have any jeans, roller skating in shorts sent a message that most of us would rather not respond to.

Yes, I remember it, though the last time I went skating was back in high school in 12th grade or so. It was fun, but I was horrible at it and shy about doing much more than using the four-wheeled ones. We still have a skating rink in our area though, within walking distance of our house. It seems to be doing well, because occasionally I'll see a sign up that says they're hiring new people.

Hello Laglen,
Oh yes, I remember them very well. In fact, I still have a pair! Though, there is no roller-rink in my proximity.
I loved skating, both ice and roller. And, was pretty good at it. The roller-rink was 'the place' to go when I was in elementary and junior high school. By the time I was a sophomore in high school it was no longer considered 'cool'. So, it became difficult to get friends together to go skating. I'll bet that it's been close to 25 years since I've had either ice skates, or roller skates on. I also have roller-blades, but never found that as satisfying. I suspect that road condition has a great impact on how much fun roller blading is. Potholes can put a real 'damper' on the weekend!
Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane. Oh, and I can certainly relate to not having the 'roller rink' moves, like we once had. I imagine that I'd get a pretty good chuckle at myself if I were to pay a visit to a roller rink now. Probably a few black & blues, too!

I remember roller skates. The last time I went by my local skating rink, it was still there. But I haven't checked recently. I haven't been skating in over ten years and the last time I did ,it was at a ski resort.I only know how to roller skate.I don't know how to ice skate or roller blade. In my prime. I knew how to skate backward. I don't think I could skate backward these days, i am so rusty, but who knows? If I get to practice it may come back like riding a bike.

I remember the rollerskating ring when I was a little girl. We still have the skating rink here too. It didn't close but I don't think that there is a ice skating ring in the town. I have not been there in a long time though. But I had my own skates and I could skate in the driveway and the street were we lived. Then when I got older I didn't go there anymore. I don't ice skate, but I have always wanted to rollerblade but never learned how. I tried the skateboard when I was young but couldn't get the hang of it. Have a good one.

Yes I remember. My brother had a metal pair. We spun around our unfinished basement on the concrete. I think I remember having fun. Yes we have roller rinks here. One is named Saints. I think the junior high kids still use it.

Lol, I come from a small town (it's growing, though, which really sucks), and we still have our skating rink. But I like the one about 30 min. away, myself. They don't turn the music up so loud that you get a headache, they keep the lights on (not just blacklights and bad paint), pretty family-oriented, and they still have a wooden floor!
There's an ice rink near the skating rink, and it just so happens to be the Atlanta Thrashers practice rink!!! It's open to the public, but they have a mini-museum in the lobby all about the Thrashers. The only time it's closed to the public is--you guessed it!--when the Thrashers are there.
I like to rollerblade (took me forever to get the hang of it, though!), and I LOVE to ice skate, even though I'm not very good. The only time I've ever attempted to skateboard, I didn't know what to do. So I kicked it, ran after it, jumped on it...and it FLEW out from under my feet and dumped me on my @$$!!! I haven't tried since.

I love my 4 wheel skates!! Back in Middle/Junior School Saturday night was an all night skate. We all be at the Rollar Dome from 10pm-7am! It was so much fun. I haven't went skating for 4 years. Our senior year we all went skating and I did pretty good! I think I will have to go and see how bad my skills gotten! I will have some humble pie with you too! I doubt I can skate backwards anymore! We have a few skating places here and the parking lot is always packed.
I was okay at ice skating, not really my thing. I did have fun when I went. I always wanted to learn to skateboard. It looks like a lot of fun!

I used to own a pair of those skates and I had pink pom poms on them. They do still have skating rinks, but I will not skate anymore. I do not feel like falling. Yes, I knew all the dance moves in those days, but now am lucky if I can stay on my feet.

I remember fondly the times when I owned a pair of Roces, 4 wheeled roller boots and used to wear them with funky coloured legwarmers and laces. Oh and not forgetting the different coloured wheels, usually displayed as alternative colours.
We had a great rink here when I was a teenager, and I was always in there with friends and family. I loved the speed skating and the skating backwards. I don't think I would ever be able to do it now though, although I would love to give it a go. We do have an ice rink about 30 mile away, but this has never had the same appeal. I do keep promising my son that I will take him though. There was recent talk about another roller rink being built in this area, and if they did I am sure I would be one of the first to go. I think I might wait until an over 30's night though, so as not to make an idiot of myself in front of the teenagers today.

Yes, but I was never really all that good at rollerskating, rollerblading, ice skating, or skate boarding. Nowadays, I like to sing, write, act, dance, perform martial arts moves, swim, and walk. Skating is not for me.

I loved rollerskating! My mom and dad actually met at a rollerskating rink. They divorced when I was 4 but my dad often took us rollerskating when we had our weekends with him. I believe that rink is still in my home town. I'm sure they've upgraded to inline skates though.
We do have rinks where I live, but we have only been once for a birthday party. My little one is still too little to skate on her own and just the right height to kill my back to bend over to help her!

I had skates with four wheels when I was a kid. The were white, with a little rainbow design on them. I used to skate down my street, with my jacket up over my head like a sail, to catch the wind to blow me quicker. I remember it being such a rush.....I miss being a kid.
