So far, I have never had the occassion to rate anyone negatively. After all, we are all here to give our opinions and I respect others opinions and only ask that they respect my right to mine. If someone words make you upset just avoid reading them or better yet respond to them with respectful corrective criticism. On the other hand i have given positive feedback and ratings many times when I felt a post was helpful or enlightening.

I'm glad that you haven't had the occassion to rate anyone negatively. I find most people on mylot are respectful of others opinions. I had a bit of a heated discussion with one member once. We both ended up apoligizing to each other because the topic was extremely emotional and personal for both of us. I didn't rate her negatively.
I think I gave someone a negative once because they posted spam.
Thats about it. Most of the time if I don't agree... I'll just not rate it.

I do rate people. I rate people only when I like their response, not otherwise. Which means that I rate only + no minuses. If you are good you get a plus but I don't rate a minus.
I would rate minus only if a post is very unsocial, offending or with some very rude content in it.

I really agree with your philosophy on rating. Its good to hear that so many people avoid rating negative unless the post is very offending. This place is really a breathe of fresh air. I find most people very open to other ideas and respectful of them. Its what keeps mylot great and keeps us all coming back.
Well that and the pa lol

Hi Monkeyrose,
So far I have not rated anybody with negative rating. But I will not hesitate to rate negative If I come across objectionable discussions. Ofcourse I have come across some repeated discussions, copied discussions, discussions not worth for me to respond and discussions not necessary to put here. All this type of discussions I have skipped to respond but not rated negative.
Good Luck.

Thats how its supposed to work but a lot of people, including myself don't like to give a negative unless the person is breaking the rules or really absurd. Mylot is mostly positive and I try to keep it that way.
There are also other people who don't bother to rate at all. I try and rate as many people as possible. I hope that it contributes to my participation earning and gets me karma.. Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself.
Some people hold grudges and rate negative because they are petty.
haha ... its kinda like the real world.

I often wonder what people are giving me, lol. I give everyone a positive rating if I like the topic of discussion. If I don't care for a particular subject I just don't do anything. I don't think I have rated anyone negatively yet.

I'm very much the same. Sometimes I just like to go down the page and rate everyone just for fun. You don't have to wonder anymore lol cause I gave you a positive rating. Its strange that you don't have a star rating beside your name.Mine has been 9 for months.. .as I understand thats almost the highest rating you can have so I'm good.. I think the Karma thing is working out for me. hehe
A question out of curiosity, are you straight edge?

I usually rate positive unless I feel that someone is just throwing out something to get a post and get some money. I look for quality and how it pertains to the discussion.

How far does it have to stray from the discussion for you to rate it negatively? I try to stay without the subject... but sometimes I ask other questions in my posts.
