I read a news about how our present situation nowadays is just like it was in the 70's. The author said that back in the 1970's, the inflation rate was very high and the prices of commodities were very high. He also added a curious note, the clothes were also ugly way back then and these ugly clothing styles are creeping back into the market. Does clothing style go bad when the economy go bad? I guess the whole thing is like a reflection of how people feel and see themselves.

What we feel ugly today was in trend in those days. Maybe those oldies think todays fashion is awful and that their style had grace and comfort. With the rate of inflation up everywhere, there will be some changes in the lifestyle of people.

Yes, I agree with you that we need to make a lot of changes in our lifestyle. I for one cannot afford to take out the car and go for a drive anytime I feel like doing so. Instead of driving, I take walks or ride the bicycle. Actually, physical exercise such as walking is really a good thing. And yes, I also learned to make my shopping list as short as possible. That way, I get to save some money.

Various aspects of the 70's clothing styles have been creeping back into fashion for the past 15 years. I was wearing "flare leg" pants in high school (not quite full bell bottoms but those were available at higher end stores). The hippie look is usually associated with the late 60's but if you think about it, the "Summer of Love" was 1969 so I'm sure much of that carried into the 70's as well. I just think now the styling is less subtle than in previous years. When the economy goes bad consumers are less concerned with fashion. This results in a sales drop which prompts the fashion industry to create more and more "noticeable" clothing to try to gain the consumers attention. Also they need to reduce their costs to produce more affordable clothing...which tends to result in lower quality but consumers have to take what they can get. Some "cheap fashions" work out beautifully, others leave us all scratching our heads.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The designs are less "gross" that it was in the 70s. I saw a lot of pictures on 70s clothing and they really look kind of "strange" for me. I mean, I could really understand why men would wear those broad ties and have their hair piled up on top of their head like that. I hope our menfolk will not wear those broad ties this time around. LOL I can't even begin how my hubby will look like wearing those hedious ties to work.
