How did you get your cat?

Our kitty had fallen down into a basement of an old schoolhouse that was next to our house. We heard her meowing for a couple of days. At first we thought the mother cat would get her out but she must have been on her own. We think the kitty was probably about 6-8 weeks old at the time. So maybe she was on her first hunting trip? Anyway my son finally rescued her from the basement and being it was the end of November my husband felt that she could not go back out into the cold so he let us keep her. Amazing as he is not big on pets in the house.
So our kitty got rescued from a big dark empty. Did anybody else get their cat in this way?

What a sweet and caring story. One of our kids moved out, bought a cat, moved back home and then moved out again. When moving out the second time, she couldn't take her cat or dog. She left them with us to raise. I've never owned a cat so this has been a fun and interesting experience. She's just a terrific pet. I do feel bad for our daughter since she wasn't able to raise and enjoy the cat.
I see this discussion is tagged mature content. This happened to me recently and I was a bit angry. There is nothing in this discussion that would warrant tagging it in this manner.

Thats an interesting story. All three of my cats have found their way to me on their own. The oldest one was part of a litter born from a stray cat that I fed for a few months before she gave birth. The mom wouldn't allow us to even pet her but was on our patio everyday meowing in the window for food. I lived in an apartment at the time and the mom would move around her four kittens every day or so but after about 6 weeks the kittens began to stray a little bit and I took the first one that came to me. The other people at the apartment complex took the other kittens. That was 10 years ago and I still have her and she has had a very pampered life.
My second cat came to me when he was probably 3-4 months old. He is almost fully persian. He had a flea collar around his neck and I found him one day sleeping on the steps that led up to my apartment. He was dirty, very scrawny and very hungry. The hallways of the apartment were inside and due to his flea collar, I was sure that he had just gotten outside on accident. I posted up found posters with his picture all over my apartment complex and even knocked on all the doors and no one would claim him. After a couple of weeks, I knew he was here to stay and honestly, he is the nicest cat I've ever had. I'm so glad no one claimed him!The baby of the bunch came to us last june. My husband found her outside of the group home he worked at. She was found alone and was probably only 4-5 weeks old. My husband called me about her and I told him to see if anyone else could take her since at the time we already had for other animals and if no one would take her, we could take her to the humane society as she would most definately get adopted. Well, he didn't listen to me and brought her home that night. I was furious, but immediately fell in love with her. She's very sassy now that she's grown up and becoming very fat. We named her Annie, after the Orphan....

literally, no. we have different stories in getting our cats.
anyway, we have two cats, both males, one orange and one black.
the black one, we got from my boyfriend's friend who doesn't want the cat anymore. the orange one, we got from my boyfriend's mom.
they are so cuddly and playful.
we really are happy to have them both.

my old house there was this stray cat was the same way. i noticed he had a nasty mange or something infection on his neck and felt so bad for him. i saw him one day hiding in a bush in the yard so i put a can of wet food out for him. i put it out there for a few more days for him and hed chow down and each day i would stand a bit closer to him without moving so hed gain my trust. within about 2 weeks he was eating off my front porch with the 2 other way ward kitties that adopted me.....and i was able to treat his neck which was even worse then i thought. he was still always skittish but hed let me pet him. just takes time and its a trust thing dont rush it. let them see you as a food source and that youre not threatening. good luck

How did you treat his neck? Our cat had bad sores on his neck and I would put tea tree oil on it and she hated that smell. It did seem to work though. Then we gave her metal bowls to eat out of and she never got those sores again. So not sure if she was allergic to plastic or what

My boyfriend responded to your discussion here. His name is neilchua. As you can see I got my garfield after I had a biopsy. We did a lot of bargaining if I'll have the biopsy.Until my boyfriend thought of buying a persian cat for me and we went to bioresearch to look for persian cat.I saw this adorable orange cat that looks like garfield who was 4 months old then.He just knows how to act for you to buy him.Neil is actually correct.Garfield is such a spoiled brat cat.And that's because I love him a lot and he was the reason why I had a biopsy.

Garfield I love it!! My kids have lots of health issues so I hope they don't come up with a plan for more kitties this way lol. I do think that is one reason my hubby let us keep the cat is because son was going through lots of medical tests and such and the cat was keeping his moral up. Pets can give us so much.

We have seven cats (I know we have A LOT haha) but we rescued each of them from the wild. There was a family of strays outside, all of them were adults, and we managed to tame them all over time, but one of them got hit by a car where we have a lot of heavy traffic, so we decided to take them all in. They are the sweetest cats ever, you would never know that they were feral.

SEVEN, WOW!!! Recently I just got done taking care of 5 cats while a neighbor was on vacation and I thought that was a lot of cats. But I am used to cats because growing up on the farm we often had 15 cats at a time.
Glad that they got so tme for you.

When my son was little, a mommy cat deposited her two kitties under our mobile home. I know that she did, because we saw her there. But one day she didn't come back and they were suddenly reliant on humans and didn't like that one bit. They never became tame cats. They were always wild outdoor cats. They both got pregnant and had litters at the same time - on the roof of our mobile home! One mommy took off. She didn't like meowing kittens wanting to nurse. The other tried nursing all the kitties and when she was struggling, one of our doggies decided to help. (Our shi tzu/poodle/terrier mix was so surprised when the babies turned out to be cats.) We kept one kitten and found homes for the others. That cat moved with us to Texas, but when we lived in the country there, she took off to be on her own. We saw her a year later with a racoon. Turns out that they became best buddies and begged food together at the local convenience store, plus got into that trash at night.
My hubby, son and I have two cats now, but they don't have strange stories. We got one from hubby's dad when he sold his house and moved to a condo. We got the other one from a no-kill shelter.

I'd say finding a kitty that fell down a schoolhouse basement is probably not something many of us have experienced. LOL But glad you gave kitty a good home. As for how I found my cat? I'd have to ask which one. :P One was from pet shop, one was rescued from an abuser, one was a gift, one from an animal shelter, one adopted from a friend, and two were strays I adopted. Yep, I have 7.
