The news these days is that eBay has made an agreement with Buy.com so that the latter can sell in the famous online auction site thousand of products such as books, DVDs and electronic instruments at fixed prices.
eBay says it does all this to fill a vacum of offerings in these areas.
The usual advertisers are afraid that this release of new products a fixed price can cause a decline in their sales.
The doubts are:
eBay is changing to become a regular site of online sales?
The two types of offer will remain always together?
The traditional vendors will really reduce their earnings?
You do you think?
If yo are curious to read the new published in the New York Times here is a link

The changes ebay has made over the past 6 years or so has cost them many sellers. Plus, the scammers have made people really leery of wanting to sell. They're probably attempting to be more like Amazon who also does it all (new, used, auction) and is still one of the few successful original dotComs. Ebay has lost quite a few regular sellers, myself among them. I know many people who have moved to Amazon - I am also considering it.

Why should eBay become as Amazon?
You have had a good reason to abandon eBay?

I don't know that they should be - more safeguards to prevent fraud - yes. Amazon does pretty well making sure sellers receive payment - REAL payment. But, their original styling - that's what made them money. Now, they seem to be too focused on MORE money. And, as people leave because it's too expensive or too difficult or whatever other change has been made, they have to make up the revenue. It's the "little guy" who put them on the map. They need to remember us!!!
I still buy there periodically as does my daughter. I still have a 100% feedback rating. But, unless I came across something really hot for quirky buyer audience, I won't be selling there again any time soon.

They have always had half.com for stuff like that too. I think they will remain an auction site but they are just rehashing their whole biz and driving people away at the same time.

That is the premise they were built on and they are still competing with other and better auction sites. They aren't going to change their whole concept. It would hurt business even more than it is already hurt.

I gave up on eBay because I am an artist and they changed everything to make it virtually impossible for small, self-representing artists like myself to ever sell anything there. And, the fees have gone up so small outfits like mine have a really hard time. They have been, more and more, catering to the larger outfits and commercial sellers than the little guy. That's too bad because it used to be that eBay was like a giant swap meet or garage sale where you can find a lot of hidden treasures. Now, it's starting to become just like any other commercial site.

If not I understand evil are you saving that ended the times when on eBay you could sell and monetize unused things that each of us takes in the cellar?

ebay need to reinvent itself to stay on top of the competition. The financial slump is hurting the market and I am sure that like any other companies all over the world, ebay is also hurting right now. To increase its sales volume, it need to find new ways to peddle its products to the online buyers. Yeah, the whole thing can be quite disturbing especially for people who are used to bidding on ebay. I don't like the whole idea either but then again, we all have to undergo changes every now and then.

As to suffer I think that nobody should ever suffer: if one simply does not like certain changes be free to seek other services.
What do not you like the idea?

I'm happy for you that you have never had problems with eBay. Can you tell us a good reason why yo love eBay?

There trying to be like Amazon. They've stood this long, so I really don't see them going anywhere. The sellers will most likely decrease, but I like the concept.

I have slowly moved away from eBay because it is not what it use to be. Thanks for sharing, I have a couple of things I want to put up and then everything else will go on craigslist for a set price.
I honestly think it is a good thing for buyers but not that great for sellers.

good day.. if they are and they tend to act more on large scale sales than the small people then their doing it on their own risk. I mean if the small people fall, it would only take a moment when the bigger ones follow and then that's it.

So you think they're just following that road? Leave small sellers to rely on professional sellers?
