This is another of my Astillibes planted in my backyard. It is nearly fully blossomed. The very left flower you can see the tip is green still. These things are very fuzzy feeling and a beautiful sight when the rising sun shines upon them. It brings out the color of them greatly. Even those this one is in a slightly shaded area from the rising sun it still gets the glow and it highlights it's purple colors. I love this color the best of all my astillibes. (so far) What is your favorite purple colored flower? Do you have this flower growing in your house or yard at all? Have you though about making a color cordinated garden with your favorite color of various flowers at all? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I would love to have beautiful flowers growing in my flower beds but the weeds and even the grass grow faster than I can get it pulled out. We have even put that screen stuff down and topped it off with the chips and stuff still comes up that don't belong there. Hopeless case. Also I am deathly scared of lizards and when I do get out there and see one I am done, no more for me. The lizard can have the flower bed. hahaha

One way to rid the weeds is to take a sheet of plastic and leave it over the area for a few months. This kills off things because they can't breathe. then take the plastic off and start fresh with planting etc. Long task but it helps a little. You have to remember too that the weeds travel very easily due to the winds, rain etc. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I made a mistake in my post I see, I said he put screen down but it was the plastic stuff for flower beds and it has been about 3 months ago that he did that. Thank you for that info.

I do not have too many flowers this year. Have not for quite a few years, but I did fill one planter box with dark red salvia and golden yellow marigolds. My husband is partial to marigolds. I also filled two large planters with Caladium tubers, and the soil must have been terrific that I put in, they are the biggest ones I have ever grown. Lots of shades of red, pink and green. They periodically send up a spathe flower, reminds you of a calla lily. I like colored foliage, and I keep telling myself that maybe next year I will grow more things. I have a dark purple "yard jew" as my mom called it. It does not do well indoors for the winter and I always have to baby it along and start new ones in the spring. It looks good with my red and peach geraniums, and also a big pot of it is growing in front of my caladiums. I always enjoy you sharing your garden with me. Hubby says our apples are just about ripe, I say two more weeks. They are Jonareds, if I remember correctly. Good crop this year.

We didn't fill as many hanging baskets as usual due to the prices are a lot higher than usual. Plus I gave away most my wifes baskets she used for them. Oooops! Yours all sound nice as well. My apples don't ripen till October usually. Maybe mid September if it is nice and sunny for a few weeks straight. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Those are pretty. I like many purple colored flowers and purple mixed. I like purple tulips and sweet williams. There are a lot of purple crepe myrtles around here too that I think are pretty. The Astillibes may be prettier though.

The flowers are beautiful, of course if you were not a good photographer they wouldn't show to their best advantage.

The flowers are so beautiful... you really have a knack at growing plants... i love looking at images of purple flowers... such color is very rare in my country... i don't even think we have a native purple or lavender flower... your garden must look very beautiful by now...

I love this flower too. Its color and perfume let me feel calm. I have planted a few kinds of flowers, such as rose, marigold, gardenia. However, I haven't had the chance to keep it in my house or yard.
