Defragmenting is not enough in doing a maintenance for your hard disk. Disk Cleanup is a Windows utility to delete temporary internet files which eats up your hard disk space and would also removed downloaded internet files like ActiveX and java Applets while Error-Cleaning identifies/removes bad sectors from your hard disk which is a space from your hard disk that are damage or unused. The two Window utilities are important, after i've tried both them, files open faster and programs run faster was well.

I only defragment the drive which contains the windows installed.
I use disk cleaner, a small tool to remove all the temporary files.
its much easier and small in size than the ccleaner.
ccleaner is more advanced than disk cleaner but disk cleaner is easy to use and one button cleaning.

I agree with you on that one. OS maintenance do maintain and optimize the hard disk. I am using a third party utility for this and its CCleaner. Its a disk cleanup tool as well as a registry fixer. Most application uses the registry but tend to forget to do reg cleanup afterward, which causes its size to bloat and slow down other applications. So defrag(though I tend to use it less these days), disk cleanup and registry fix are system optimizer to improve system performance.
