We have just started a "use bikes to save on gas" campaign in our neighborhood yesterday. The idea here is to encourage the people to ditch their car and use bicylces instead. The prices of oil is simply too high these days that we have to find some alternative means of transportation. Besides, using bicycles can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. How about you, what do you do to save gas and protect the environment?

I ride my bike all the time, that's why I don't spend a lot of money on gas. I don't really drive my car all that much, just to work. I can't ride to work because they won't let me come in early or leave later to change my clothes. I have to ride with bike clothing because I live in a hilly area and I sweat a lot and there's no way I'm going to bike to work wearing my work clothes. But, I bike just about everywhere else, or I walk. Sometimes, I will take temporary work at other places that have showers, etc, so I can ride my bike there.

Good for you! We all can do a little exercise every now and then. I think that if we already ride the bike or walk instead of ride our cars all the time, we will not just save gas but also keep ourselves fit.

hi alindahaw!
that's good for your town! i never heard that Tagbilaran is already in this bike thing too. i first heard this when UP students at Diliman started renting bicycles instead of riding jeepneys. i hope we can also do that here in our town, or even in our barangay because there's just too much tricycles and jeepneys here. they don't have a control on the number of tricycles and what happens is the road is becoming more and more crowded by the minute. you would feel that the road is narrow but in reality, there's just too much vehicles. and the air is becoming more and more polluted. i just can't take it when i'm in a traffic jam. i can easily inhale the smoke coming from those darn tricycles. it would be perfect if they'd junk those tricycles and replace them with bikes.

Riding bicycles instead of driving is a wise choice. Not only will it save gas money, it's healthier for you. Health problems keep me from riding a bike, but I don't drive every day and a tank of gas will last me a month to six weeks. With the price of gas, I am stretching that even further by not going when I don't absolutely have to.

My husband has been biking to work. I can't - I go to a lot of different places, and I'm just not very good at biking on busy streets.
We have been planning my trips to clients' houses so that I go to one area each day. I have been running our errands while I am out, on my way to and from people's houses. I have also been doing more walking to the clients' who live close by.
When we go out to do fun stuff, we have been trying to take the bus or walk.

To save our money we bought a house a little further out and now I think we have payed the difference inthe gas we need to get to where our home should have been. I drive the kids to school onthe bike whenever I can. Sometimes I am just not in the shape I need to get there and back. We try to make all our trips in one day and plan it out so that it is all in a row. My hubby carpools to work, and we have a reel mower for the lawn. It all adds up.

A bicycle would be useless to us out here in the country in America, a long way from work. There is no way we could ride a bicycle to work. It would take hours, especially if you are 45 minutes from work in a car. My husband drives to work and we both limit our shopping or going out. We double up on things that have to be done when we are out, like banking, buying groceries, post office or a number of other things we need to do at the time. This has cut back on our gas consumption.
