Too early to Christmas shop??

Each year my family exchanges names and gift lists to help cut down on the cost of gift buying. The problem I have with this system is I have to spend all the money at one time close to Christmas once I have the lists of what people want. I want to start my shopping earlier this year and need ideas for gifts that anybody would want regardless of what might be on a list. I need suggestions for gifts that would be good for anyone. Is it too early to shop or should I wait just a bit longer??

That is a good idea, my family isn't too big so we don't mind buy for everyone. I usualy don't start my christmas shopping till september. I always like to start early and shop up to the first week of december. That way I have plenty of time to make sure I have gotten everyone something and don't spend so much money at once.

It always a notion to try and avoid the Christmas rush. But anytime would do if you want to go Christmas shopping. Just a tip though, buy the toys and don't buy food yet. The turkeys will feel bad. Just kidding! Just go ahead and prepare the gifts. I usually go with small giveaways like key chains and such.
There are lots of other gift ideas our there. Go to specialty stores and those souvenir shops. They have good choices for gifts that could be given to anyone. Well, I hope you have a good time shopping. May be too early (a tad too early) but Merry Christmas! Take care my friend!

hi falcon!
i think it is not too early, and i think that is really a great idea of yours. this early you can start planning who are in your gift list and what to give. and when there are bargains and store wide sales, you can immediately go and get something from the store. then you can just keep them until christmas.
i think it is prudent because come christmastime, people are rushing and most of the time, everything is so expensive.
i believe that with doing our shopping early, you will really save a lot of money and save yourself the stress of the christmas rush. at least when december comes, all you need to buy are for those exchange gifts in company christmas parties. :)
in these difficult times, it doesn't mean that we will stop being thoughtful. we will just have to go around and be able to share the love. we get really creative during difficult times.
go do it... :)
have an early christmas!

i guess it would be better to start your christmas shopping cause for sure you don't wanna go on shopping rush., a lot of us had that kind of problem when christmas is coming., we all rushing and i hate going to mall if there's a lot of people buying.,its kinda irritating.,better start finding stuffs now.,try to search & order Bath & body colognes.,it is now on sale ., Ü you can give it your girl friends or cousins or relatives ., have you tried to go online shopping? you may also try that in finding good stuffs or something.,

It is never too early to shop for Christmas. How about if you can't actually shop since you don't have the lists, just take an envelope and every pay period set aside the money that you would spend for Christmas. Or if you go to a certain mall or store, buy gift cards for you to use when it is time to do the shopping.
Or maybe at the next family get together, you can suggest do the exchange earlier.

I only wish I had the control not to spend money I set aside for the gifts. Even gift cards would provide too much temptation for me. What can I say, I have self control issues. Your ideas are pretty great though, thanks!

It is never too early to do Christmas shopping. In our company, our 13th month bonus is given twice. First half is given around May. From there, I do some gift shopping already. When I have extra money and I see some "gift materials", i go ahead and get it. I also always bring my list with me in case I see something I like.
Try grouping your relatives, friends, officemates by age group and gender. This will help you determine what to give. You can also give the same gifts to people who are not in the same group.
happy shopping!

I too found that all of a sudden Christmas was upon me and I had not really done anything. So last year I was in a store that I found a item that made me think of my daughter in law when I seen it,it was marked down big time si I bought it. T
From that time on I started looking around for items that I thought would make good christmas presents, by the time Christmas rolled around I had most of it done other than stocking stuffers and odds and ends. Believe me it was so much more enjoyable than the rush that I had gone through each year. I hate buying Christmas presents then wondering if they will like them. I try to buy things that is useful to them, like the recharable sweeper I got for my daughter in law, she has dogs and the hair is on the couch and the floor and this can sweep the floor or you can take it off and use as a hand vac. What good is a present if no one can use it, I got a picture for christmas last year, it is nice and I guess they got it at a good store but it fits in no where in the house, I did find a place to hang it and they look at it each time they come over.Maybe it me, but if I'm buying pictures or something like that then I try to match the colors with what decor they have in their house. We should all be appreciate of any gift we get just the fact that someone thought of me, but I have a closet full of ones that I really didn't have any use for. Think of the person you are buyng for what are they like, what do they like. look around when you are out shopping and if you see something that really strikes you as someone on your list would like, buy it now, one out of the way. I always start now in July or even before and pile it up in the closet. And by Christmas I got it all done, and I think you buy better gifts because you aren't rusheed and having to settle for whatever is left in the store.

I dont even want to think about Christmas yet.. It is bad enough closer to the time all for just a day practically, its just stupid
Not even started summer yet, so i rather enjoy relaxed summer, spend on day outs and holiday if can and worry about stressful Christmas nearer the time
Well luckily for me i don't really have many to buy for so its not a big problem, and most my shopping i can do with amazon :D:D

Christmas shopping has become a headache, hasn't it? I always start early so that I don't end up spending a huge amount of money all at once. This year because I lost my job, I will be making homemade jams and preserves and cookies and making gift baskets for the family. :)

Sounds like you've got it together! I wish I could be more organized like that. I figure though at least I'm starting now. 5-6 months should be plenty of time to help make my Christmas season not so hectic!

i start right after the previous christmas. books, scarvs, pen and pencil could be for anyone. check out the stores and see what you come across. i start christmas early because a) i dont spend as much at christmas time and b) if i see stuff on sale, i buy it - this way i save money!

My mother in law would start the next years Christmas shopping the day after the current one. This way she could get everything at mark down or clearance prices. In my family I am the only one not Christian, so we still celebrate it. Hard to give up on a tradition you grew up with. But, I always start my shopping way early. I like to have everything bought and wrapped by Thanksgiving. This way I can sit back and watch all the other nuts running themselves ragged. Plus when we put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving I can put all my packages around it and enjoy it until the holiday. I can spend my time baking or just sitting on the bench at the mall people watching. LOL

My mom got some of the presents for my brother's birthday and it's in November. I say that if you want to now, go for it because you might spend that money somewhere else and be left with none. I think it's a good idea to split Christmas shopping up through the year to avoid Christmas rushing and spending all your money. Just make sure you hide the presents well because they'll have a long time to be found.

It is certainly not too early if you want to shop for Christmas gifts now, however, often folks change or you find something later that you would rather give as time gets closer. I, myself, enjoy the rush of shopping after Thanksgiving, as the Christmas holiday gets closer.
How much money you have really has nothing to do with it, if you simply save the $ you have when you have it--shopping can be whenever you wish.
