Curious or Busybody?

You are stuck in a massive traffic jam, to find out later that there was an accident. Would you stop your car by the side and watch, or slowly drive past, or go as fast as you can?
You saw a crowd of people surrounding 2 men or women in a shopping center, or on a street. You walked nearer, and heard the 2 persons shouting at each other, apparently they were quarrelling. Then they started exchanging blows. Would you walk nearer to see, watch from a safe distance or quickly walk past?
Do tell, are you curious or busybody? I'm scared of violence, but also a bit of a busybody, so most likely I'll watch or listen a bit, then quickly move away from the scene. What about you?

I would also drive on unless I saw that there was no one assisting the injured I know basic first aid so I would stay to help, however if there were medical or official personnel taking care of the accident I would go on as many times effective help can not reach the injured as they are stuck in the traffic jam and at times people do not heed the emergency sirens and will not move out the way even if they can.

Almost everybody is busybody about this as they are curious to find out what happen.Unless, that someone dont care about others and they just think for themselves.
As in car, most will slow down their car and would want to see what happened. That's what usually happen.
I will only watch and see but wont interfere what happen on the quarreling took place.

You are right..maybe curious sounds better than busybody, right? But sometimes, when we were in a hurry, and the slow traffic made us mad, so once past the accident scene, we'd just rush off without even glancing back. Anyway, thanks for responding and have a good day!

Well, I have a normal amount of curiosity, but I also usually am traveling with a little girl. Because I don't need her seeing people as roadkill, and *I* don't want to see people as roadkill, I try to move on when I have to drive past an accident - as quickly as I can move on with the rubberneckers ahead of me! I do turn to look but I'm usually in a hurry anyway so having to wait for all the slow traffic ahead, I want to get a move on.
As far as a fight, it would depend who I was with. If I am alone or with a curious friend, we might stay a safe distance but where we can still see and hear what's going on. I would make sure that the people involved in the fight did not notice me because the last thing I need is some nutty stranger coming after me because I was standing there.

Everyone of us is curious in one way or the other trying to find out what happened or what is going on over there. Whereas, busybody means meddles or pries into the affairs of others. So being curious, is short of being busybody. Being curious is just looking from the sideline, and not being involved directly in other peoples affairs. I am both because I am a curious person and also that I like to help others.

I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't even glance but I definitely wouldn't have front row seats. I think I am a bit of a curious person but still a person with lots to do so I would still be on my way. When driving on the street, if there is an accident, I look at it, say "oh my gosh" and continue driving. I wouldn't stop in the middle of the street to watch what is going on. That is crazy to me.

Because I am afraid to get too close to the action, I would stay back but walk slowly by. My husband calls me nosy especailly since I know everything that is going on in my neighborhood. I don't get into people's business, but I like to know what is going on around me. I think most people are curious, that's obvious by the amout of rubber-necking in my area. :) If help was needed at an accident or in a quarrel, I would only interfere with a call to 911. Great discussion!

Yup, most of us are curious - it's only human behaviour. I think 'nosy' is better than 'busybody' - you get to know what's happening around you, but it doesn't mean that you're interfering in other people's affairs!
Thanks for responding and have a good day!

In the case of an accident, I am curious but if there is many people, I don't stop as I don't want to be in the way of paremedics etc. If I saw a couple arguing, I would keep moving but if they were exchanging blows...I'd call for help as I moved on.

In the case of an accident on the road, it can be dangerous to hold up traffic. So unless you're a doctor or something, I think it's best to move on as quickly as you're able.
On the street I imagine I'd have a nosey before moving on, unless it was something that I really didn't want the kids to see. I think it's human nature to be curious.

If I'm trying to pass by an accident, I try to just get by without "rubber necking". Too many new accidents happen when people do that, and I want to be nowhere near the accident when/if another one happens because people are being curious.
If someone is apparently being beat up, I would probably stay far enough way and call 911 for assistance. One never knows when a fight will turn into a bad problem.

Half of both.In those two situations....of course i' be curious as to who are the involved persons. In the first situation victim might be a friend,a relative or just an acquaintance. If so happened then maybe i could give a help or call somebody close to them. With the second situation most probably, stop and yes see who's involve then go away, even if it's a relative.

If its an accident and they already are being helped I don't look and I get out of the way as quickly as possible. What people don't realize is that by "rubber necking" to see whats going on they aren't paying attention to their driving or people around them. In 1994 I was in a muliti car pileup for just this reason. Someone had skidded off the road. While everyone was busy staring at the uninjured man, they weren't watching their driving. The pile up included two semis - thank goodness I was paying attention, and seven cars. I was shoved into the median by one of the semis and my gas tank ruptured while my car still ran. I was very very lucky.
As for violence on the street, I'd be the one dialing 911, staying back and only observing so that I can tell police if anything should turn serious.

Ohh..that was terrible - you must have been terrified! I can understand that people would slow down as they passed the accident scene, but most would drive on. What I don't understand is that, some would stop their cars further up, and got out to look.
Thanks for responding and have a good day!

For me I just take a look and go with my way, but if I am the only one near the accident I try to give help to them and see if anyone hurt to help him, it is happen to me when I was driving on desert road there was a car in front of me he was driving a bout 120km speed I was driving in 100km speed which I prefer always, then suddenly his back tire have been explode then he lost control on the care and go outside the road and go upside down for 3 times, that is all on my seen me and my family with me, so I stop in hurry and run for the his car and help them to go out the car they was 2 men in it, the miracle that they go out safely with no hurt for both and the car just sit without any fire in it, thanks God.
Have a nice day.

If I stop my car I will cause more traffic jam. So might as well I stay in the car and let the police traffic handle them. Moreover what can I do if I stop? However I the person involved is some I know, I stop my car by the side and help him/her.
