I was watching onw of those judge shows the other day. There was a couple who were married for only like a year or two and they were getting divorced. The guy wanted the wedding ring back from the girl who didnt want to give it up. If a person buys their lover or spouse jewelry, do you think they should return it if they split up?

Personally I think that jewelry that given to her is hers to keep(or should be) but something like a wedding ring has a promise attached and if for some reason the marriage doesnt work out he should get the ring back. Its not really hers to begin with, its theirs.

I've never really thought of it like that before. That's so true. A wedding ring is theirs, it belongs not to the individual, but to the relationship. Thanks for responding.

That's actually a pretty tricky question. I would say no, they shouldn't have to give it back when they split up. It was a gift, so it should not have to be returned. Think of it this way..if you gave your best friend a birthday gift, if your friendship ended, would you ask for that gift back? I just think that what's done is done, and if you give someone something, that is theirs to keep. I can totally see something like this getting out of hand in the future.. people will start writing wedding bands and rings into their prenups...
