I have rediscovered the joys of simple food. You don't get much simpler than an egg sandwich. Take one hard boiled egg, a little salt and pepper and a spoonful of mayonnaise (or not as you wish). Mash it all up, spread on the bread of your choice and........ heaven! What simple foods have you rediscovered recently?

Your a cheeseball with your title. But I still love you!!
I can't say I have really discovered any simple foods lately. But here is a little known fact, I'm addicted to potatoes of any kind. I eat them almost every day. I love rice too! Both are simple to prepare in numerous ways and I just love to eat them!

LOL! Your on a roll today!
I guess I could stand to gain a few pounds so maybe that's why I can't stop eating them. :)If it starts showing up on my waistline, I'll have to change my habits. :(

Actually, I've redescovered honey on toast, I used to eat jam on toast quite a bit, but got bored with that, Mr.Panda bought me some acacia honey, so I'm using that now. Actually the honey's helping clear my hayfever up too.

She could even just take a spoonful in her tea or coffee, that works too. I sometimes just have a spoonful neat, but I do like honey, so I don't mind eating it. It really does work, something about kind of vaccinating yourself with some of the thing that your body's fighting. (If you ask my Mum, she'll tell you what I mean if you're not sure)

Now I really want an egg sandwich but I have no eggs. Grrr. Well, to the point. The simple food I have recently rediscovered is cheese on toast. I have phases where I eat lots of it (often because that's about all we've got in but sometimes becaus eI really fancy it!). I had forgotten all about cheese on toast. I don't remember liking it all that much as a child. Well, the thing was, I am not too fussy about toast nor cheese for that matter but I really like melty cheese. Now I have finally learnt how to grill toast the way I like it so I have been enjoying lovely cheese on toast. Sometimes with a little Worcester sauce. A certain toddler of mine likes dry toast but, rather more unusually, he likes tomato sauce on toast. I have had tomato sauce on top of cheese on toast but never just sauce on toast. Ooh, Welsh Rarebit. That's something I haven't had for a while - not that I have ever made a proper one but I have tried. I don't suppose you have a recipe. Mine tends to be just cheese and tomato with whatever I happen to find to put on top!

I can deny you nothing! Courtesy of Keith Floyd, and it's good:
Ingredients
25g/1oz butter
25g/1oz flour
150ml/5fl oz milk
175g/6oz cheddar cheese, grated
150ml/5fl oz brown ale
1 tsp English mustard
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper
2 egg yolks
4 slices of toast
Method
1. Make a roux with the butter and flour, and leave to cool.
2. Bring the milk to the boil, then whisk it into the roux. Bring to the boil once again, whisking to ensure that it does not burn and also that the sauce is free of lumps.
3. Add the cheese, beat in and remove from the heat.
4. Reduce the ale, English mustard and Worcestershire sauce. When thick, add this mixture to the cheese sauce. Season well with salt and pepper and beat in the egg yolks.
5. Spoon on to the slices of toast and grill until bubbling. Serve with extra Worcestershire sauce handed separately.
Happy cooking in your new kitchen.

I know right? Some of the simplest foods can be such pleasure. We are so spoiled to the best and variety of our foods that something like a simple egg sandwich is a treat when it does cross our minds to visit it again. My mother made many salads like egg when I was growing up. It stretched the food dollar for her... Tuna Egg and macaroni salads where her favorites.

I'm going to read thru your discussion and see what great ideas others have posted. Thanks for starting this discussion.
Have a great evening,

I have not discovered any recently as I am still eating it. I am more into complicated, but I love grilled cheese sandwiches, and I do love spaghetti and meatballs, make my own meatballs, brown them first and then add them to the tomato sauce, and put them on spaghetti. With a salad it is just good.

Funny that you should bring that up. Last night I decided to
have French Toast for dinner! I have this great twisted egg bread
that makes the best French Toast. I like to add some cinnamin to
the egg wash. I cooked it up with some ham and it was yummy with
some light maple syrup. Perfect dinner in just a few minutes!

Well, I like to make lots of "simple" foods. My boyfriend is
the king of "something simple". His favorite is boiling hotdogs.
Not exactly mine. I like to whip up some french toast, or also
make some ham & eggs, anything that can be done in one pan.
Even frying a hamberger that I individually pack with onions,
as long as it's a one pan cooking even I'm good to go!

Egg salad...yummy yummy! But for some ungodly reason everyone in this house is trying to force me into consuming a peanut butter and sliced banana grilled sandwich.
No thanks.
I'll stick to slicing a tomato a little salt and pepper and a spoonful of mayo on a piece of wheat toast.

I know just what you mean! My father LOVED fried egg sandwiches. My mother enjoys egg salad sandwiches. I won't eat either one or boiled eggs, but I sure can enjoy a scrambled egg sandwich with cheese!! In fact, I had three eggs with cheese this morning along with my toast. I was in SUCH a mood for eggs!
As for a return to the "simple pleasures" of eating, I recently began buying yogurt again. What a treat!! I hadn't had any in quite a while, but I sure have been enjoying them. It's got the consistency and satisfaction of pudding, but is more beneficial because of the bacterial cultures - just a nice healthy treat.

Simple foods are among some of the very best, the egg sandwich is lovley, but i like it with slad cream, the tang of the salad cream adds the extra bite.I like all the simple foods, ones we eat at lunchtime very often are cheese on toast, with a dash of worcester sauce if you like it,beans on toast are great, but for me there has to be no expense spared the beans have to be Heinz,I like the toastie machine too,all kinds of things can be stuffed into two slices of bread and toasted.a jacket potato with a number of fillings is as good as a meal too.

My granny used to go out ot the garden pick some fresh tomatoes wash and slice them and put a few slices on a piece of bread then use Miracle Whip on a piece and sprinkle Real bacon crumpled or use real bacon bits and it would taste so good we couldn't just eat one. Sun ripened tomatoes just makes things taste better.
