Biking to Work

With the gas prices continually climbing I am currently in the market to find a good commuter bicycle to bike to work. I never realized there were so many types and brands of bikes available on the market. I could use a little input on good, quality bikes to check out. I'll be riding about 2 to 3 miles to work each day. I look forward to any input you guys can give me.
