Help to the American Peoples Pockets.....Denied!! Why??

For you people that did not hear, This morning; Brazillian governments offered 6 1.5 million gallon capacity ships with sugarcane ethanol on board to help assist the U.S. with its energy crisis. Low and behold, this could have easily been used as a supplement to our vehicles, But No.... The US Congress, AND BUSH denied the offer. Saying that " The US is capable of handling its own problems on its own". And so, Brazil kept the 250 million dollars worth of ethanol to itself. Has the government gone insane? Or is it just demented? Why do you think the government did not accept the ethanol? I personnally think it was because the politicians were looking after their own pockets.....Do you agree?...

They also rejected assistance following the hurricane - we can see where supplying our own help got us. Cruise ships sitting empty; housing trailers sitting empty on leased fields; donated supplies never given to those in need, but instead given to other agencies who didn't need the items; homes in New Orleans still sitting in a pile of rubble because no one has stepped in to help (so why couldn't the trailers be placed on these properties? They claim zoning laws prevent it!! So, change the damned zoning laws for this situation - idiots!!) The problem as I see it with our country is far more pride than we have earned!! Pride will be our downfall, I guarantee it. And, I agree - they DO want more money. Big Business has Washington by the shorthairs (if not other anatomy) and controls everything they do. You don't dare accept charity - screw the faith-based services pushed so heavily - charity is for poor people and we're not poor! It is pride that is at the bottom of all arrogance and we have become the most arrogant nation in the world! The more I see, the more disgusted I become.

jerzgirl, You made some excellent points with your statement. Guess what? There are people sitting around here in America that won't take a job because it pays less than $9.00 an hour. Then, there's those griping because they can't find a job while people in New Orleans are whining because no one will come and help them build their homes back. We have men who think their hand is too good for a hammer and women who think they can have babies so TAXPAYERS can support them. And then, we have Bush - making money from family ties with oil and hotels off the coast of the Philippines - lol - wow, never mind. We have no one running for president that is worth even thinking about. Our economy is going down the "gas tank" and oil wells in Texas are not pumping because the Feds won't allow them to. What about all the oil we have been "saving for a rainy day" that is stockpiled somewhere, right this minute? This whole world has gone crazy... and I'd still rather be in America than anywhere else!

I'd like to see a link to the video he mentions - I searched CNN.com and there was NOTHING there about this story. As for people not being willing to work under $9/hr, I can relate because the cost of living is so high, who can afford to live on that. But, at the same time, Bush & Co. removed the minimum wage restrictions on construction workers in New Orleans so they could hire non-citizens (migrant workers) at far lower wages. Now - WHO is it who isn't wanting to do something? In defense of migrant workers, though - they'll work their tail ends off doing what our own won't. They have fantastic work ethics, take pride in what they do. Hard to find among "our own" any more. But, I want to see the video - I want to know that I had a legitimate reaction to the story.

I've been looking and all I see is a supposed agreement between Bush and Brazil to improve ethanol production using sugar cane instead of corn. I'll check out CNN and see if I can find it - I responded before I saw your questions, though.

I did a search of CNN.com and nothing came up, neither video nor article. If you can provide a link, we'd all appreciate it.

I have searched and there is absolutely no evidence of the claims you make. I find it pointless to argue over a topic which may be completely false. I like to have the details of a situation rather than just read the headlines and assume that's the whole story.

There probably worried its a terrorist plot. We need the help though if the ethanol is legit. Bush though is a republican and that explains why he did not accept the free ethanol.

If it is true it does not surprise me. I don't know a lot about US politics but I do know a bit about President Bush and I know he is an oil man. It is typical of politicians the world over to put their own interests, and the interests of big businesses, before the needs of their own people. The biofuel on offer could at least have gone to helping some essential services and charities which are badly affected by the high rise in fuel costs. Even if it had not been distributed to the majority of American people, it could still have done some good.

Im sure though that they could have diluted diesel with sugar ethanol. But still, I agree 100 percent with you.
