Hello my fellow mylotters. I have a scenario here. Your house is burning and you have only one item to save. What would it be? And why will you save that?
I've experienced this 6 years ago. Our house was caught in a fire. The first thing I remember to get inside our burning house was my wallet. (of course, I put my kids first in a safe place) My ATM card is there, my ID's and some cash.
How about you? What will you save first? Ever experienced getting your house burned?
Everyone's welcome!

Did'nt experience it, hope and pray wont experience being caught in a fire anytime in my life.
Anyway, to answer your question, I would keep my children and everyone in the house safe first before thinking of anything to save. But i would try my best to save all appliances and important documents and that includes my wallet.

i would go for what ever money i had in my home first, which would defiantly be in my hand bag, so I'll have my pass port and all my important documents.

Ah. House on fire scenario. I would save myself. Nothing is more important for me, than me. It's ok if we lose some cash or jewels or something that is very important. But we cannot get out life back if it is gone forever. So I'd rather save myself than save anything else.

I have not had this happen, but another scenario. We have had some very severe storms this summer and have had to go to the basement several times. Each time I grabbed my purse, since my drivers license, credit cards, etc. were in there. I also took family pictures down there. I know I have many that cannot be replaced should my house blow away or burn down. That is always my concern that I will lose my pictures. So if my house were on fire I would hope that I would have time to get pictures out!

Hi, I do hope that this will never happen to me or to anybody. Well for me i'd probably save my wallet since all the IDs, the cards are all there. Then I'll probably save my box full of memories. Because material things would be replaced, but the sentimental value of those things in that box can never be replaced. It is such a special box where one of my dearest friend and I did as a project. Stay safe fellow mylotters!

Hello dhangski! If that happened, I will save my wallet because all of my ID's are there and of course my money was there.

hi dhangski, When every one is safe, like my my mom , sister, nephew, my dog and the fish tank. then i will think about saving my wallet.. at least we need money for the future, my all secrets are in my wallet.. insurance policy number and then bank account number- my identity. every thing in my wallet is important so that will be the thing i will save. oh one more thing my mobile. feel incomplete without my mobile. thanks

That is something I would never ever wanted to happen to me, to my family and also to my friends. But what can we do if ever fire struck our house, nothing but to save lives? Anyway, my best, I will... Oh ow... this is tough... Whew... Remember my topic, "What's in that bag?" I guess that bag will be the first I will keep in safe. You know what is in that bag, my wallet which holds most all my cards including ATM cards. KEEP SMILING = NEIL

Oh my friend really your house went on fire! Oh how I wish that will not happen to you again to any one of us here that's very tragic! Well, just for fun though I wish to contribute: Well,of course, I will make sure my son and my hubby is secured then I'd get me attache case containing all my cash, jewelry and important documents and my handbag that contain all my personal stuff.

If my family was already out, the one thing I would save would be my pets. Most other things I own can be replaced...but my darling animals never could be.

Actually I haven't experienced that yet and hopefully not. Well I'm planning for that and I have thought of putting all the land and house titles along with other important documents such as birth certificates, insurance, bank statements etc. all in one briefcase which will be put in an accessible but safe place in the house. In such events, I could just pull it out of its place and run with it. Of course that is after I make sure that the people around the house are already out

Oh dear. What a thought. I have been ucky enough to never have experienced this. If it did happen, after my partner and dogs were out and safe, I think it would be my keys (for the car) and then my wallet.
I don't really think I am materialistic. Not enough to risk my life for anything else anyway.
It must have been a shock for you, having your house burn. Was there much damage? Was everyone ok?

Actually, i had this happen. It was 1974. I was living in a duplex on the first floor. I woke up, the back of the house was in flames. I got the wife and kids out, woke up the family upstairs and got them out. Then remembered that I had a couple of hundred dollars on the dresser and went back for it. I did not have a computer then, and plastic I could replace, but cash would be gone forever.

if my family's already safe, then i would save my laptop first. well that's the most expensive gadget that i have even though i didn't bought it. it has a sentimental value for me because my father bought it a year ago

I'm sorry to here you were in such a traumatic situation. It's good you got your kids out safely. They are your first responsibility.
Thank G-d I have never been in that situation. I hope I never am. If I ever am, I know my priorities. Life always comes over things. Not having children, most important are my pets. Animals are living breathing creatures. They feel pain.
Things that can be bought in stores don't matter. I have stated life over in a new country and gave away 90% of my things before I moved. Then my mom gave away 90% of the stuff in storage before shipping me my books and a few other items. I don't miss any of it. It's just stuff.
Apart from my pets which are sentient beings and my responsibility to care for for life, I would save my fathers art work.
His art work cannot be replaced. My insurance guy put a price on the art, but there is no price on sentiment. I have a sentimental attachment to it. Life would go on without it, but I would be very depressed if it burnt up in a fire.

Why on earth do you want us to experience a nightmare such as this? You are so mean (Ha!Ha!)?
Anyway, if I am asked to make a choice then I'd simply save my family first . It is after then that I'd try to save other valuables .

Suppose my family were out, the first thing i would save is my creation, in the form of my poetry. I would never be able to create the same thing again in my life. We are born once and we write only once. It is extremely difficult to apply the same feelings and write the same thing. So the first item I would save would be my poetry collection.
