Or maybe they are just concentrating on the hospital? Do you think we took nursing just to work as nurse in ahospital?

I work in long term care. I was an STNA for many, many years. I have been a nurse for just less than a year. We are the medicine passers, wound treaters, order writers, advocate for the patient-if we think the doctor screwed up. For instance today the doctor wrote an order that did not make sense as to the dosage amount. So I held the med, while I sent a fax to the doctor to clarify if he really DID mean that amount. The original was 1 drop twice a day, and he changed it to 1 tsp. three times a day. That is quite a significant difference. He faxed back 1 drop three times a day. So, in a sense he screwed up, and we cover his butt. So we also cover doctor's butts. :) We chart, we sign. We sign that we signed. I find it all still overwhelming at times. Not to mention all the assessments in between everything else!

Well, with as many mistakes as I've seen doctors make as far as amounts of meds, and giving meds that patients have allergies to---and stopping the order---I think that I am not a maid of a doctor, but that I cover the Doctor's as*. He would get sued if I would not stop these sorts of orders, and gave the patient meds that don't make sense. But, being conciensious, I update the doctor in why I believe he is wrong. Generally, they adhere to my knowledge, and will change the order. Which covers their as*....

Based from experience, I'm not a nurse though, just a regular visitor at the hospital, (and sadly, regular client as well), nurses are there to take care of the patients based on the doctor's recommendations. I guess they are the back bone of the patient's recovery since they attend to the impromptu needs of the patients.
In hospitals though, there are many departments. Some may be real busy (or toxic as most people refer to) like the emergency room or at an ICU where you need to be alert anytime. But still, I admire the profession. If given a chance, I'd probably consider nursing if I study again. Just have fun and enjoy meeting new people and touching other peoples' lives.

In my opinion, nurses are working for patients, they deal with many tiny things after doctors,so, they have so many things to do.To make some sense, they are busy.
