Hi there all. I was wondering how you other movie lovers felt about going to the theather to see movies on the big screen. Movies are so expensive now. Where I live, prices are up to almost $10 for a showing. Prices for drinks and stuff are also expensive too. So do you feel this is fair? Unjust? Overprices?? Would you rather invest in a large screen TV for your home instead?? Im curious to see what you have to say!

It still only costs $6.00 here to see a movie but when you double for the two of you and add a popcorn and a large drink, you have spent almost $20. For that kind of money we would prefer to go out for a dinner once a week. It just seems so wasteful for us to do this so we just wait till the movie comes out to DVD and make our own popcorn.

Wow. $6 is a steal compared to here. We just opened a new theater with one on the way in a year or so and it's like wow. The industry just assumes that people will continue to pay the prices if they continue to raise it. But in essence, other things like rent and gas especially are really tightening peoples budgets. When it comes down to a movie versus dinner or gas or rent, There is no way that people will be able to afford all of it. It's just not probable. The big screen is nice, but I would perfer to just grab a blanket and popcorn in my own home and just hang out on the couch.

Its natural to have all this overpricing. Its evident everywhere. However, to answer your question, I still go to the theater to watch movies, but not regularly as before. I do once in a while, especially if the movie is really much awaited. On some instances though, I just prefer to watch it online since I'd be able to save more. xD

That's true. The overpricing this is natural. I used to go alot when I was younger when it was 3 bux for a movie! CRAZY huh? But I agree. When the movie is much anticipated I just HAVE to see the movie. And I also agree when you say about just not as regularly. Its been a bit since Ive seen a movie, but when I did, I saw Kung Fu panda. Which I thought was going to be very very dumb as protrayed by the commercials, but I found that it was very cute!! BILLIONS better than I previously thought. Thanks for your input!

For most of the films that come out these dayas, it isn't worth it to go and see them on a big screen.but I just saw a film that was worth Every penny, we saw it before 12pm on Sunday where the price was 6.00,The Batman movie. It is a classic action film that was great to see on the big and I mean big screen. But most films that I like are dramas and they are just as good on a small screen.

In this day and age if you can find a film that you are looking forward to see I think it is great. It doesn't matter if it is " girly".You must go see the movies you like.I hope you get to see Batman too.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it. I just have fallen in love with that series. And I've heard so much good about the Dark Knight. I hope I get to see it soon. That and the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I hope that's good too! Thanks for the kind words. =]

In the past 18 months I have only been to the movies once, as I am currently working in China. In order to see an English movie, it means travelling to Hong Kong, and then paying $80 to simply see a movie. I will actually be returning to Australia later this year, but it's unlikely that I will often see movies there either, as when I left it was $15 to see a movie, and that has likely increased during the time I have been overseas. While there are some movies that are best viewed in a cinema, for the most part I'm happy to wait for them to be released on dvd and watch them at home.

HOLY MOLEY! That's absolutely CRAZY. I can understand that in China because it's a foreign film. But even still in Australia. That has gotten pretty expensive, but then again in the states I wouldn't be surprised if they rose to that in the near future. Everything is getting rediculously expensive everywhere. It's un real...But I guess people will always be willing to pay for a movie, especially if its well anticipated. So. I guess we move on???

Hi , I too agree . High Ticket prices have reduced the Number of Movies we watch now a days . We feel better in watching these Movies on DVD Player ;a few months after these are released ;and in the comfort of our Homes.

See to me, this is the upside of not going to the movies. There is privacy in the home. And also less disruption from neighboring patrons. But I honestly do think that if someone were to like invest in a larger screen TV and new movies, then they would pay for themselves many times over. Especially since the prices just seem to keep growing.

Thats true. It is just a totally different experience in the theaters. But I guess it just comrs down to a personal choice at that point. People like to see it different ways.

We very rarely go. I am married with two kids (3 and 4). IF we do go, we go to the bargain Cinema for $2 each. You get free drink and popcorn refills when you buy larges. Can't beat that. Better bargain is to buy a Pay-Per-View movie at home, pop popcorn in the microwave, put your PJ's on and snuggle on the floor

Thats a nice way to go if you do the bargain cinema. We have something like that here for $1 before 6pm and $1.50 afterwards. The movies are close to be released on video, but it is still a bargain if you like going out. I like your cinema though because of the popcorn and drink deal. Even at the bargain cinema here popcorn is still like at least $10 if you buy it in a combo (two drinks and popcorn). Its outrageous. But its alright if you do it every so ofen. But Im like you. Id prefer to just stay home and have a good time at it.

The movies that are mostly see nowadays has a lot of special effects and animation. The piece is the movies which he will not get the good experience at home. And that is the reason why I generally prefer to watch the movies in the theatres of I know that the cost of the tickets other rising day by day. But I think I have no other choice but to pay for it. That is the reason why now and is a generally prefer to go for mourning shows because the tickets at that time a cheaper and also there is less clout in the theatres so I can concentrate on the movie rather than using the sounds of others chewing food. That is one big problem which they face a lot of time because he had in Indian people hardly watch the full movie with full concentration. They come there just to have some fun and two-time bus stop for me it is a very serious business. I in learning animation and so when I watch a movie I can actually learning the part and that is the reason why I need to concentrate a lot and so this is the way to do. Theatres will definitely give a better experience to me so that I can understand effects and the camera angles used and I will also understand what in fact that particular angle is given.

Yes. The Movies can be a very great learning experience. One thing that royally urks me about going to the movies is that everyone else around you is so utterly obnoxious. Little kids screaming and kicking chairs. It's very disruptive. Even the last movie I went to was like a month or two ago and I saw 'Baby Mama'. I though it was very dumb and rude that a lady brought her newborn baby that practically whailed through the whole film. Its things like this that greatly trun me off from going to the theaters.

$10 is normal where I live. I still think it's worth it. Seeing a movie on the big screen is so much more of a fulfilling experience. I definitely don't want a large TV screen. Those things use bucket loads of electricity.

Yea. There are pros and cons to going out or staying in. The experience in the theaters is more enjoyable, but in the same sense it just doesnt fit everyone's budgets. In response to the big screen TV. There are some TVs that offer money saving on electricity. But I can understand people being woeful to buying one because of this. The costs have skyrocketed lately.

I'm sooo... sorry for coming in so late. I'm also in the same boat in which you are. I also go to theaters very rarely due to the reasons mentioned by you.

I prefer to go to the cinema. I have an unlimited pass that costs £11.99/month (or a bit over $20). I can see as many films as I want using this, so the more often I go, the better value for money it is.

Thats a great deal! I wish we had something like that around here. The closest things that we have here in home town would be a $5 card for newer movies that have been around for at least 2 weeks. And then the other 'value' theater we have is a $1 theater. Its actually pretty cool. I mean, it's not nearly as nice as the newer theaters we have but its nice if you're just looking for something to do. I saw '21' there and im glad it was only a buck. Cuz honestly, I didn't think it was that good. I mean, the plot was good, but I felt it was too long and took FOREVER to get going. The transitions were wayyy too drawn out.

Nothing compares to watching a movie in theater! The ticket prices may be a bit on the expensive side, but there's a huge difference. When I watch a movie on a big screen, I get lost in the story, enchanted by the imagesand the whole atmosphere not only of the movie, but of the place as well. It's magical. Sure, I still watch stuff on my dvd and my computer. BUt it's not the same. Something is missing then.

AGREED! Nothing does compare to watching a movie in the theater!!! And you're right. The big picture does help you to get lost in the movie. Which is how a movie should be in the first place. But even still, its so hard to get your eyes away from screen. Granted that it's not boring or anything. It isn't the same though. But even though the prices are still expensive, most places are good about having great facilities and comfy chairs and such. I love those!!!! Thanks for your reply!!!

$10 to watch a movie that cost over $200 million to make. Count me in. In order for those Hollywood guys to make these incredibly awesome movies they need a paying audience. I for one and willing to do my part so long as the good movies keep on coming. Movie theaters actually have to "rent" the reels for the movies essentially betting they will make money on the movie. In the end it's purely economics same as why a fan of an NFL team will pay $500 to take a family of four to a game that last 3 hours. As long as people are willing to pay the price will stay (rhyming not intended). But to answer your question shortly: I have no problem paying $10.

This is very true. When you pose it like that to a person, then yes, $10 is nothing. But I guess you just have to go to the movies when funds are permitting. I honestly think that the theaters are going to start suffering because of the gas prices. Eveything is just rediculous, and it's too bad that this, among other things are going to start suffering. =[
