I sometimes look at people's profiles to find out where they live, maybe the discussion was weather related or something and I get curious. Yet many people don't put that down for some reason. I just looked at someone's profile that said they lived in Winchester, Virginia, Now I may not remember this 100% since i was way younger back then but I believe I have been through or stopped in WInchester many years ago. I used to live in Alexandria, Virginia and my family was in Buffalo. I used to take I-66 to I think it was Front Royal, then get on the PA turnpike either in Front Royal or I drove another road to it, but I remember a WInchester, Virginia along the way and also stopping to get a bite to eat around there. Maybe that person worked there and our paths have crossed before in real life. So tell me, have you told where you live on your profile or at least a general location or do you prefer to be a creature of the universe. If so Why?

There are not many, but some of the friends on my list was based on locations, particularly those I requested. Back when I first joined, when I replied to a discussion of theirs, I mentioned "Pataki-land" being that he was the state governor at the time. Later on, I've also used the term Spitzer-land, but I think this is my first time typing out "Patterson-land" here. People who have requested but do not have their location &/or age listed probably would not make it onto my friends list. My actual reasoning is I used to be one of the admins at another site where people knew that I was a Long Islander, & even though I had a different ID on that site, others knew that I had been using this present ID that I use. One other thing is, it probably is more right for me to have my location in my profile, because it wouldn't be right to be selective like this if I, myself, don't have it filled in.

I live in NY and have been to Long Island a number of times, I don't think I saw you, i would have remember you. My son played hockey in a rink named after a hockey player, it looked real nice on the outside but was a real dump on the inside. I remember we got there after a men's league game. someone had a had a camcorder and was panning the rink, not realizing the place did not have locker rooms or did not have enough locker rooms, when they got home they realized they had caught several guys on tape that were changing and were wearing nothing but a smile. A 1 1/2 inch scream does not display the same detail as a TV. I also got lost down there several times. Our paths may have crossed.

Me I live in Delaware but I would assume just for the own personal security that is why you do not see addresses just like I would have concerns with Myspace--I definately will not list my location in MySpace because theirs too many people that want to get to know you way TOO fast.

I understand that, but I would think listing Delaware or Central Atlantic states would give people an idea without divulging too much information, I myself put down the Hudson Valley Area, which is Albany to NY city but I think it helps people to relate.

I am very free about my age, gender, and location. I have a lot of friends who are as well. That is why Grandpa Bob and I could joke about me waving at him as I drove on past to my daughter's house. I may actually go see him next time I get to go to Minnesota. I have other friends that I do check their location and other details. I think it is a lot of fun. It also gives me something to discuss with them, as I talk about my town.

You are so right, these online friendships could turn in real life ones. And nothing better can be said for a site that encourages this type of interaction. I wonder if you guys are more open because the midwest tends to be friendlier. While us east coast people tend to feel more insecure and threatened by the elements that live here.

Yes, you did and like so many other places, I can say, I once lived in Texas. I lived in San Antonio (what beautiful city, love that river walk), I have visited Corpus Christi, Dallas and Austin - I had a job that moved there but I did not go. Are you a native of Texas or one of the many transplants. I love that Texas accent!

I give my real city and state on my profile. I did this when I first signed up and never thought twice about it. I guess people don't put their real location online because they are scared of stalkers and the like. I feel like my city is such a big place, if you actually take the time to find me then I deserve to be found lol. But seriously, you will never make friends if you feel the world is out to get you.

I have been to Cincinnati, actually I think it was Sharon, am I close. I had a friend who lived there. The evening we dropped into see him, ok it was more like 3 AM when we arrived unannounced, we found that his wife just had a baby earlier that evening. I guess it is a small world and getting smaller. we were on our way to see a friend in Kentucky....ahh I can't remember the name of the town right now.

It certainly could have been Sharonville..this was way back in the early 70's we did this. You are right, paranoia is a bad thing.

Internet makes the world smaller. But I think you mean Sharonville. That's one of the suburbs here. That part is actually way out for Cincinnati. You don't have much city left before you are in Mason or some other city.

My information has my town on. I have no problem with that because it doesn't have my address on it or directions to my house. (I'd rather choose who can find my house!)

I don't blame you, at one time on the internet if you looked up someone, one of the websites not only had a phone number but a map to the house (ouch!) Loon Lake - where in Canada is that, what province, being from Buffalo I am somewhat familiar with Southern Ontario. Loon lake sounds very picturesque and relaxing? Is it?

The Loon Lake I live in is in Saskatchewan (there's also one in Alberta or BC). Its a really nice area in the summer the population booms and more than triples but in the winter we have 400 people living in the town limits plus farms and The Makwa Sahgaiehcan Indian Reserve is right next door and has a population of about 800 people. Theres about 300 campsites in the provincial park and approx 200-250 cabins by the lakes. Its a nice area to live and and..well everyone kinda knows everybody but rumors do fly...according to the local coffee shop i have a baby now (i wonder when that happened, i missed out on the whole process if it did!)

If your phone number is listed in the phone book, finding your address is easy to do online. So if you use your real name and city, you can be found.

I do when it applies to the discussion, for example it is July here and someone is complaining about the cold weather - I look and see that they are from australia. Or someone who condemns and hates all American, it is interesting to note what country they are from.

I did tell where I live but only vagely. I am concerned about safety on the internet. One can just never be too careful. I too look at others profiles just to see where they live and such.

I agree, I did the same thing. I live in a small town, my hubby considers it a city but I guess it is all relative, and if someone wanted to find me, it would be very easy if I put in the name.

IF I"m not mistaken I did put where I live in there. I don't usually put much information but there really is no special problem adding where I live, since I often talk about it in discussions as well:) I sometimes look at profiles and check where the person is from too. For the same reasons you mention, something that was discussed that might appear to me related to some specific part of the world and I then check to see if I'm right.

Yes, that is one of the reasons that I look at location as well. Many people are scared to put in their personal information because of the possibility that there are predators or other sickos watching or waiting for them or a family member. Many people lie about their age as well, that I am not sure about the reason why. You did put in your city, it is one of my favorites, it is big and beautiful and so clean for a large city. It is a city to be proud of.

Many people including myself prefer not to put much information but in general I don't mind saying what city I live in and I have no problem at all giving my age. I can understand someone not entering the location, but the age I don't see the reasoning. As for TOronto, yes it's a beautiful place - I just wished I could live a bit away from it so I could enjoy a more peaceful place with less noise and less busy , but at the same time close enough to be able to taste it when I wanted :):):)

I have it listed...except it actually my old house that's listed not where I am now. It's only 20 miles away so it's at least the general area. I always thhink about correcting it but then I forget again.

Well, I have not been to where you are from, I have certainly been in the general vicinity and I have bad news for you, you are almost in NY. My son played travel hockey and we went to scranton and hershey and many places I don't remember as well as Binghamton and Elmira. Wow, it really is a small world.

I live in Lake Elsinore CA and it is a small town about 49 thousand people. I am not concerned that people will find me in this town. I always post the city where I live so that people that talk to me will get a better idea of where I am located. On the Internet I talk to many people all over the world and like to know where they are from.

I wrote you a response a while ago and it is not hear. Well, I have not been that close to you other then LA and San Diego and the connecting road between them. Are you affected by earthquakes? Do you get the ocean breezes or the forest fires? California sometime seems like a great place to live and other times not. What do you think about your locale?

I have lived in California for over 26 years and like it very much. I am between San Diego and LA but on the east side on Freeway 15. We get earthquakes, and fires. I have only lived in this town for 2 years. It is interesting as I have a nice lake and am near the mountains and about 1 1/2 hour from the beach.

Hi Debs, My profile says that I live in Canada, and this is a large country, but I just leave it to that. I like the idea of being a child of the universe though, so maybe I could have left even that out. I think it's fine whatever people feel like saying in their profile. I guess some people are like me and I live in a small town and don't feel comfortable giving the name. Blessings.

I do understand the need, especially if you live in a small town. It would be easy for someone to find you. Of course I consider 30K a small town so I can understand that. Can you put down a province?

I live in Virginia not far from those areas, but I would not want to put my exact location on the internet becasue you never know what kind of psychos are out there. So far I havent run into any insane people on mylot, but who knows anybody can portray anything they want to online.

I think that you can tell when they are insane, it is the people who are just sick and demented that often appear as normal as everyone else. I think you can sometimes tell a lot about someone after a reading their comments and responses. I am amazed at how some of these people can say things and I feel like I said them myself. After a while, some people I feel like I do know and would like to get to know them in person, or people I would definitely not like to get to know because I don't like their discussions or responses to them. I like Virginia, maybe next summer, if gas prices are more reasonable will plan a trip to Northern Va and The DC area. My husband has never been there.

I think it helps us to understand more about a person if they put their location on their profile. Different countries, different cultures, different ways of expressing ourselves. It helps! I believe you were looking at my profile. I live in Winchester, VA. It is very near Front Royal and you can get to it from I-66, and onto I-81, which goes right through Winchester. I love it here! We've only lived here since May of last year, but I felt "home" as soon as we moved. It's quaint, yet growing at an incredible pace! I'm lucky enough to live outside of the city, so it's growth doesn't directly affect me. But I do like that we just got our first Sonic this past Spring!!! Whoo Hoo!!! I'm gonna get fat now! LOL

The cost of living here in Winchester is SO MUCH cheaper than near D.C.! I can't believe the prices here! I mean, like everywhere else, prices are rising, but they're nowhere near the prices in the larger cities! The thing I love most is that my husband still works out of Gaithersburg, MD, not far from D.C. and still gets the big paycheck, but we pay so much less for everything here! To give an example, our house runs entirely on electricity except for our water heater which we have running on propane. Our monthly electric bill is $109.00. I think that's much lower than Maryland or the D.C. area in Virginia. I'm glad you have fond memories of Winchester. Oh, I know what you mean about those TV commercials! I remember when I saw my first Sonic commercial. I did a search on the internet and found the closest one was like 300 miles away! So unfair!!! When the Sonic here was finished, you should have seen the lines they had, morning til night! That went on for about 3 weeks before it finally started slowing down some. It's probably a marketing strategy, trying to find franchisees in areas where there's no Sonic around. Same with the other commercials.

I prefer not to give out my location for privacy reasons. There may be times I talk about my grandchildren and with all the lunatic child molesters out there, I would rather not give them another target. That is just one reason I don't post my location. I only let people I know personally, face to face know that information, or once I get to know people I might tell them if they are online friends. There are just too many perverts out there who prey on single women regardless of age, or other features. If someone wants to know where I live bad enough, they are going to have to get to know me better and allow me to get to know them better. It is a safety issue and a privacy issue.

I can understand you not wanting to disclose your location due to the fact that you have and talk about your grandchildren. We as adults can deal with the weirdos out there but children have not yet learned those life lessons.
