My son works at a car wash as a manager. We are having severe storms right now in Minnesota. He was outside watching the storm come in with it's strong winds etc when a bolt of lightening struck the side of the building smashing the cinder block wall into small bits. he got hit with pioeces of the cement flying and has a few minor cuts on his neck is all. So he is okay. As we talked on the phone he said, "I have a greater apprecviation for storms now dad. I won't be standing outside watching them anymore." Just reminded me my brush recently with a tornado. I may be done chasing storms etc. Thanks all. Be careful around storms of any type.

So glad your son is ok, it could have been really bad. One time my mother and I was standing outside talking to the police because we called them when we saw someone go into a garage and steal a bicycle and we were near a light pole, it was cloudy but bright outside, no rain in sight and all of a sudden there was a sizzling noise then a loud bang. We all jumped and hollered, it was lightning striking that pole. We all got away from there, the cops went looking for the stolen bike, which they did recover, and my mother and I walked back home.

I'm so glad he's ok. Lightening can be deadly, and we should have a healthy respect for it.

Wow that was a close call, I am glad I was not in his shoes I would have been petrified. I never go out when there is a storm coming, even if it means the kids do not go to school I would not go out in it. I would not risk them by walking them to school and I would not care what the teachers thought or said either!! But anyway I am glad your boy is OK.

I am glad that he was not seriously hurt by the pieces of the cement that flew and hit him,and I am glad that he has a greater appreciation for storms, and I hope this story helps others to see that storms are something that you need to very cautious of ,and not underestimate them, and I myself will never underestimate a storm, and I refuse to even leave the house if there is a storm outside, because I know how dangerous they can be.

My son and I both love watching storms. So it was no wonder we got this call. I don't believe him when he says he won't be outside anymore watching storms. next time he will be more protected though I bet. Thanks.

That sure is a wake up call, I like to stand there and watch storms too, I think I will be more careful with my storm watching. I am happy for your son and family that all is well with him and he wasn't hurt seriously. It does make you think how short life can be sometime. We are not promised tomorrow.
I have been MIA for a few days, I got hit with a nasty virus. Right now I am on a borrowed computer until mine is fixed.

Computer virus or health virus?

First of all, I am glad your son is alright, and that none of the debris went in his eyes. Nature has become something we take for granted, unlike previous or pioneer generations who often faced severe weather with no hope of rescue and only endurance to survive.

I'm glad you and your son are both alright! I admit, I love watching storms...but mostly from the safety of inside! Last evening we had a storm blow through that was very strange. It never really went over us, was just all around us. I jumped in the truck for a milk run and on my way back I saw lightning come up out of a road sign. Lightning didn't hit the sign, there was no lightning in the sky at that moment, the sign just lit up and had a spiraling bolt all around it with several "tails" streaming out from the sign part. Maybe it's a common thing but I had never seen it before.

I feel that way too, after the tornado I was in in March. Thank God your son was not hurt. I do worry about lightning. Living here in Virginia we do have frequent storms in the summertime. I also live near a lake and worry that when it clouds up and the thunder starts a bolt could come down and hit the water and anyone in the water could be electrocuted. Plus it would probably kill alot of fish even if it didnt kill any people. Once the thunder starts I usually use that as my cue to get the heck out of the water.

I've heard that if you are wearing a necklace or something metallic around your neck and you get srtuck by a lightning you get some kind of freaky marks for ever, if you survive of course.

Lightening is very hot so it will burn things easily leaving scars.
People have been struck and their tennis shoes melted to their feet
due to the high temperature of the electricity of lightening.

If you can hear thunder or see lightning, you are best off going indoors. No point in playing around with this.
thanks for the warning, although your son got it in a much scarier manner.

I am glad your son is OK. Thunder is tricky and you do not know who it will attack.
I hope the weather calms down out there. OUrs is above average but not 112 like it was a week and a half ago. It was 97 today. The pool sure felt nice today.

HI GRANDPA BOB! I am so glad to know that your son is safe and well. That must be really scary. I do fear and respect the Lightning. Everytime lightning flashes at the sky, I kinda smile and pose as if the angels and saints are taking photographs of me and the lightning is their flash bulb. haha..Just kiddin' I just stay indoors when there are typhoons and lightning. And I do remember your discussion then about your storm chasing. Just glad that everything is all well. Just take care my friend and hope the weather out there will get calm soon.
Take care and God Bless!

I'm glad he's alright!
We had a real doozy Saturday night, constant lightening with very little thunder. I sat outside and watched for awhile, it was so beautiful. I guess I should respect lightening a little more, I've heard so much about deaths and injuries due to it lately.

OMG your son is a brave soul what was he thinking?!! I know he likes the storms and all but he's lucky he wasn't hurt worse or struck and killed by the strike of lightning. I would have to say after that it put the fear into him. Sometimes it takes just that to make us realize this. It's good to know he is ok and not hurt bad. You as his father must have been worried when he first told you. I am petrified of lightning storms I will go hide in the hallway with my head phones on tunes blareing just so I don't have to listen to it for I tremble if I see the lightning and hear the loud bangs. I wait for like twenty minutes then come out of hideing check on things and if it's still like that back to hideing I go.
You are a storm chaser?!!!!!!!!!!! omg tornadoes were talking wow! that right there is some scary stuff. When did you do that where you now say your done storm chaseing? I can't imagine some people are way to brave wow. Stay safe and may god protect you and your family from harm take care.
