I have always wondered that myself; I never knew they originated from Germany. Oh, and just as a side: Wikipedia may not be a credited source, but not all of it is inaccurate. There's a lot of stuff I found on Wikipedia that is pretty factual.

Because they were originally made in Hamburg Germany.
Now the real question is if Hamburgers come from Hamburg, shouldn't Cheeseburgers come from Cheeseburg?

No, but now I am. THere are alot of things like that though. Why do they call a butterfly a butterfly when it has not butter in it? Why is a chicken fried steak called that when in reality I think it is beef that they make it with. You just never know how things get named.
