Manson Family member, Susan Atkins, is dying of brain cancer. Although she was originally sentenced to Death for her part in the 1969 bloody murder of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger and Voytek Frykowski, her sentenced was reduced to Life In Prison. Now, Ms. Atkins and her family are asking for a compasssionate release so that she can die at home with her family, instead of in jail. The cancer has left her paralyzed on one side, she has had to have a leg amputated, and is unable to sit up for long period of time. Her request was DENIED by the State. She will die in jail. What are your thoughts? Do you think she should have been released, or do you think they did the right thing by keeping her in jail?

I agree with bloodshyne. She showed no mercy to her victims. She does not deserve mercy herself. At least she can say goodbye to her family unlike the people she killed. She is suffering longer than they did. The longer she lives the more she can think about what she did.

That was pretty much my thought too. I can see her family wanting her out since she's in such a fragile state, but Sharon Tate's state was pretty fragile too and that didn't earn her any sympathy from her killers.

I can see both sides of this issue. She's not really a threat to anyone in her condition. She's imprisioned in her own mind so it's not like she's going to have FUN if she had gotten out, however if someone killed someone I loved and were in this situation, I wouldn't care, I'd want her to stay in jail forever. It would be like mocking me or my loved ones pain if they would be released. So yeah I can see where both sides are coming from. I'm not close to the issue so I really have no opionion either way, but I think that all of it is really sad, such a waste.

Thanks very much for commenting. You're right, there could be arguments to both sides.
