For a trip, I definitely prefer packing. But moving an entire apartment, I LOVE unpacking! It's such a great fresh start! I get so fed up with packing, I end up just throwing things away, then I'm really surprised and delighted when I'm unpacking and have plenty of space for all my things :-)

I dislike unpacking more because your usually exhausted after your trip and don't feel like doing much. Packing is more exciting because your thinking about your trip most of the time and thinking about what you will be doing on your trip. For me packing takes a lot less time than putting everything away.

I learned (from trial and error, mostly trial) that it's always wise to build in an extra day or two AFTER your vacation to recover from your vacation. This includes a little extra sleep, all the unpacking, laundry, and general cleanup that always seems to accompany the end of a vacation.

I quite like packing and buying things to take with me on my trip. However I don't like unpacking when I get home because I wonder where to put all my stuff. The easy part is washing my clothes. I bought home some presents for people from last trip. One present broke and my friend had to glue it back together and I currently can't find the present that I brought back for my sister.

Packing can be kind of fun, especially if you are thinking about saving room for things you bring back too. I am trying to decide about bringing a gift in my suitcase or just buying it when I get there, it's a wedding gift so if it's breakable I probably should buy it there...

I have only taken a few vacations, to be honest. I do enjoy traveling, I just really do not enjoy unpacking. Unpacking, cleaning, things like that, it just feels like such a waste of time, although if I don't do the majority of these types of things, they don't tend to get done. I wish I could just let things stay messy or undone but I can't do that either lol.

LOL! I think that there were a few items in the bottom of my husband's suitcase from our first vacation which were still in the suitcase in the closet when we pulled out the suitcase for the next trip we took oh.... 8 months later. Obviously he didn't need them or anything...

for me it's definitely packing. i can hardly sit down to pack when i know i'm going on a trip. my mind will be filled with things like what i am going to do when i am there.
unpacking is a whole different matter for me. i usually unpack with my family around. it's time to give them things i've bought for them on the trip. looking at my purchases also remind me of the excitement i felt during the trip. cheers ;p

I love the excitement and anticipation of packing things and preparation for a vacation or out-of-town trip. I do not really like unpacking all the soiled and smelly stuff, but if I need to, I psych myself up by associating each item with some special memory about the trip. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. To make it as painless as possible, I try to unpack as soon as possible.

I hate packing. My wife packs her and the kids and I unpack me and the kids. I am so a.n.a.l., though, that I start doing laundry as I am unpacking and usually have it all done the first day we get back

I'm kind of like that too though. I try to clean everything really well before I leave, that way the likelihood of there being anything I have to deal with when I get home is small, other than laundry. I don't like doing laundry so unlike some people who let it pile up all week before they do it, I do a load as soon as my hamper is full. My hamper up to the lid is about one load unless it's entirely jeans and towels, then it might be two.

I hate unpacking! Unpacking means I have to put things away in the right place and I'm too lazy for all that after I just got back vacation! Plus, it means I have to do laundry from all the clothes I wore. And my clothes are never put back into the bag the same way they were put in when I packed them...they are never folded.
I make things difficult for myself!
The only time I liked unpacking was when I moved into an apartment, because I got to decorate and decide where everything was going!

Looks like I agree with everyone who has posted so far. I don't mind the packing, but I do procrastinate when I pack and leave it til the last minute. Last time I forgot my entire bathroom kit because it was still in the bathroom sigh. Everything was in it, but I grabbed my suitcase and left lol. Unpacking is definitely a lot worse, I tend to leave the suitcase on the floor for at least a couple days before all the unpacking gets finished.

I've always left the suitcases on the floor for a couple days. Everything that needs immediate use comes right out, as well as things I know I need to wash because I need to use them, but things that don't need to be noticed often sit even up to a week lol!
I better not forget anything necessary, you know, like my makeup bag or shaver or something.

I like unpacking the least, too. At least packing you are anticipating your trip with unpacking all your fun is over. You just need to do laundry and return to normal life. Not that my life sucks or anything, it's just kind of depressing after all that excitement of vacation and trying new things.

Like you unpacking is worse for me, and for the same reason. WHen I'm packing I'm filled with expectations, and excited about moving. Once I get there I start with the same enthusiasm, but after putting the easiest things away I kind of loose steam. I remember when we moved here I still had a few boxed that I never unpacked after 2 years - guess I didn't need what was inside that much :)

I must agree with you! Unpacking is the worst. At least when you pack you have the anticipation of something new. Unpacking just seems like a lot of work to do!

I think the unpacking I would dislike more for your tired you have to do alot of laundry and put everything away it's a drag. I will useally at least get the clothes out of the bags so they don't smell after returning from a trip but as far as the rest of it that can wait. Packing for a trip is more fun for me for I am all riled up excited about the trip what I want to bring and it makes the whole process alot more fun.
