I'm a danger to myself! :-)

"I think therefore I'm dangerous" is the tag photo in this discussion, but I'm more of a danger to myself than any others!!
I got a phone call from a potential employer today, for a position that is 1. Closer to home, 2. Better paying, and 3. With a far more reputable company. And I'm completely frozen with inaction! I feel like I need a little more time, that I might be jumping into another poor choice?
But at the same time I don't know that I will EVER feel 100% ready to accept another position, I will find flaw in anything.
Has anyone ever felt this way? That you might miss a great opportunity because you've been burned in the past? Or any kind of practical advice?

You shall never know whether you made the right choice or not until you make it. Theres nothing wrong in trying it out. So if it is so advantageous why dont you make a go at it?
Just as you think it might turn out bad it might turn out to be good too.
All the best

That's true. I think half the problem is the field I found myself in, its shady and abusive! Not really the environment I want to do well in, but unfortunately my skill set lends itself really well to temporary recruiting!

Practical Advise... Suck it up!
What is the worst that can happen by checking it out? You can always walk away.
Everyone that has been let go, understands the place your in.
Best Advise... Suck it up. Your still all that!

Must be really fortunate! So many people have no jobs at all. That's fabulous for you. If it's better in those 3 ways, it's better! Go for it! It sounds like a really good decision. Eventually, if it turns out badly, you can look for something else.
Good luck. Most of us doubt our decisions because they involve a major commitment, but this one seems very desireable.

Thanks for the encouragement, that's something I should be careful not to overlook! I was just so surprised at how things went over at my last job, I feel like I'm a little jaded. I want to try to get over it, but who knows how long that takes??

Well, if you're frozen to inaction, remember that courage is not the lack of fear, it is going ahead despite it! Sounds like this potential employer could be a good one. If you have questions, why don't you ask the employer so you can set your mind at ease before you take the position? Otherwise, I would take a sheet of paper, draw a line down the center, and list your pros on one side, cons on the other. Read it over when you're done and pay attention to the length of the list on both sides. Honestly, if there's more pros than cons and you're unemployed, it looks like a good thing. I know that I try really hard not to miss good opportunities, they might not pass my way again.

Past experiences can help us to recognize similiar situations but we must not allow them to prejudice us. We should always learn from the past in order not to committ the same errors again and again, and should be able to recognize identical features in persons, institutions, or situations. But to reject an opportunity only because you failed once, that would mean to program yourself for everlasting failure. Good luck!

Thanks for the input! I'm terrible with perception though, that will always be about 90% my problem, I think! :-)

You've got three MAJOR pluses going for this new company. How many negatives do you have for it? If the positives outweigh the negatives, go for it girl!
I do understand what you mean. Sometimes we choose the known negatives over the unknown.

Hello soooobored,
In life we have to chances if you don't you will be saying what if? so that a chance go see waht the job entail you may be pleasantly suprised. Never look back to past and never be nagetive, be positive and go with head held high because I have been there and worn the t-shirt and you will learn by past mistakes so don't let a opportunity go by and good luck you will fine.

Thank you for the reply, and I think it is my learning from past mistakes that actually made me follow my gut and not interview with the company! So I guess this old dog CAN learn new tricks, lol!!

Okay, think about what is holding you back. Then do some deep research on this new job. Always remember that a job is better than no job. This new job might be "just a chance" and where will you be if the company fails. It's best to always think about the "what ifs" and go with your "gut instinct", I think.
Oops, maybe it's dangerous not to think, too ;)

You know, the only negative here was my "gut instinct" and because I can't put that into words, I feel guilty counting it as a reason to not look at the position.
But I am happy to report that a position I applied for over a MONTH ago has called and wants to interview me next week! This company is stable, and really cares about their employees. My gut is all about this new job!!
So thanks for the reply, and I will follow my gut this time!
