I just saw Laci Peterson's mom on television. She was talking about how her daughter's killer, Scott Peterson, keeps a blog with photos of himself and her daughter and talks about his life with his late wife. Other killers are now getting access to the internet and are being funded so that they can also have blogs and websites.
It seems to be that this type of interaction with the public only encourages killers to manipulate the public. I personally don't think they deserve that freedom, but since our country was built on freedom of speech, do you think that it's okay for killers to have blogs and websites that allow them to communicate with people outside the penal system?

That's pretty creepy. It's sort of like the idea where people have set up websites so they can be penpals with serial killers. I'm sorry, but that just sends a shiver down my spine.. and not a pleasant one.
Of course, it's a free country, but I don't think I'll ever be visiting any blogs like that... ever.
I'm sort of surprised that prisons are allowing inmates online and to keep blogs; I could sort of understand if it was a part of the punishment for those doing lesser crimes (stealing and the like, maybe), but killers?

Hello wachit14,
I cannot comprehend what in the world is going on in these prisons is it a holiday camp(vacational)they should never be able use computers let alone internet, they have no right to communicate with the outside world in any sharpe or form and as for freedom of speech, please don't make me angry here, what about the girl he killed? what about her freedom? he took her life and took away her freedom to live so he has no right to have freedom of speech, he should be locked away with nothing and made to do hard labour. I am really shocked that those prisoner are allowd to use computers.

Prison is supposed to be a punishment, deterrant and a place to rehabilitate if possible. Plus it removes undesirables from society where they may do further harm. Giving access to the internet just puts them straight back into society. Once online a person can earn money, run a business, commit crimes, influence others and do almost everything people can do outside of prison. What's more they can contact their victims! I am quite stunned that internet is laid on.

Hi There wachit14
I think this is terrible. In Britain years ago, two 10 year old boys were convicted of a toddler's murder and were jailed in age appropriate holdings. These lads gained a good education whilst locked away and when they were released were given new identities, houses and jobs because if ever they were found out by the general public they would have been ripped apart, but who has picked up the bill for all this? The tax payers of course. I am a single parent family and I would love someone to give my kids a house and a job but my kids will have to work hard to get what they want in life.
They certainly do seem to have an easy ride of things in prisons these days at the tax payers expense!

I think internet access should be a privileged that is revoked...or closely monitored and restricted such as they do private companies. I work for a large company whose computers wont access certain "restricted" sites outside of the medical, electronics, and any of our competitors sites. None of which any access can be granted.

I think this is wrong! it must be very distressing for the families of the victims. I understand that in America you have the freedom of speech thing going onm but surely having open access to the internet for periods long enough to be able to keep up a blog or webiste is sort of defeating the object of being incarcerated. This concept seems wrong to me and i'm sure it would to the majority of people ,although wierdly enough i can't find the wordsto articualte precisely why! I really do think it is unfair on the families of victims, and in my opinion their needs should be put before those of offenders.

I think killers need to be shut o of the world. I think they need to have as little reedom as possible. I hey are so willing to take away the lie and reedom o their vicims, why should they have such acess o the rest of the world?
