If you don't want to spend too much money, you could make them a nice dinner, and perhaps construct them a scrapbook of events in your lives. It's very personal and touching :). I would love it if I got that stuff. Perhaps get them something they could carry with them all the time, jewelery perhaps? Maybe a good book to read in the subject they enjoy. Perhaps a ticket to a concert or some kind of show or sports event.

yeah, I think you should know what they would like to have. if you are so not sure about what to give, just take them along and ask them to choose what they would like to buy. They would surely deny, but you insist and they would surely take something they like and that way, you do not have to worry about your partner liking it or not. Unless it is a surprise.
