For the past 7 months I have been blogging. I have been online for many many years and I find so many personal websites and now blogs where people get on and talk about their children and grandchildren by name, as well as have photos posted showing what these children look like. These sites also many times show the owner's city, state, country, and sometimes even more. I have seen some with street addresses and phone numbers listed. Why? With all the warnings we all have heard about the perverts online who pretend to be friends, or pretend to be the child's age, etc...just to get close to the child so they can be molested, kidnapped, or worse...why do so many people still put this information on their sites? Any thoughts on this topic? Do you post personal photos? Way back when my first grandchildren were born I wanted to post pictures, but at the parents' request I did not. My children do not want their children's pictures plastered all over the internet. It is like that one commercial...once it is out there, you cannot take it back. Even if you delete it, it could still be available depending on who made copies of it while it was available.
So, what do you think? Please share your opinions on this.

This is something that some people forget. It has been going on for thousands of years. We are alive. There have always been child molesters. It is as simple as that. Maybe these people understand that and have decided they are not going to let anyone scare them into living in constant fear.
The difference is that now there is TV and internet to scare everyone into thinking their children will be abducted, molested, both or worse.
We made it. You and I are alive. I don't understand how some people can shelter their kids thinking that some pedophile is going to take their children.
This is a different way to look at it. What if those people are fishing? It could be dateline for all I know. If you were looking for a child to prey upon would you be foolish enough to actually find a website with a phone # or address? It could be a federal house set up just to catch pedophiles. But there are some people who would do it. That "Dateline" show is very popular and they still catch people. LMAO
But the point to the matter is that people need to watch their children. Not keep them under lock and key.

I don't see where the photos would be a big deal as long as there was no personal information involved with it. You never know what some psycho is going to do once they get the idea in their head. So personal information should be avoided when using photos.

That's what I mean...it seems that no matter how people are warned through the media not to post personal info online, they still do. All over sites like MySpace, FaceBook, Blogger, etc, you will find people with the names of the city or town they live in...photos of their children, playing in the local parks, etc...schools...and other places, not realizing that the internet has become a hotbed location for pediphiles to prowl. So someone from the neighborhood is a child molestor, browsing on myspace in the place where you can browse by location...finds pretty little children's pictures, and locations where they like to play...bingo...how much more easy to go there and start stalking in person.
And this is a personal issue with me because I am a survivor from the late 50's and early 60's long before all this public attention to the problem, of multiple neighborhood child molestations. Whether it was just rampant in my area, whether it was because I was the child of a single mother, or what the issue was, I was a target with no defense. I am a strong believer in not posting personal info and not posting photos of children on the internet for any reason. Yes, the problem has always existed. Why make it easier for the predators? And I don't believe that all those out there with extremely personal info are bait....I think that many of them are those naive people who don't realize they are putting their children and/or grandchildren in danger.
Hey, thanks for responding. I would really like to get a discussion going on this topic. Maybe your post will help.
