ya...there was a urgent requirement of a design and me being gal stayed up late night....so he really liked that and accepted as a gesture of good workmanship

I think nothing would make your boss prouder if you excel and exceed in all the expectations from you on your work. One of the boss' functions is to develop his/her people. This could be both professionally and personally. It makes them proud if you deserve a promotion and if you grow.
It happened to me in my last company. That was what my boss always tell me. And he was happy that I got promoted. Now, as a boss, the least I could do is do the same thing for my subordinates. I am lucky to have him as a boss.

oh i like when i do something right and the boss appreciates it. but if he doesn't, it is still okay with me because i know i am doing what is right. but of course, it is nice to be recognized. :)
well, i used to. i am my own boss now. so things are different. but with other people that i hire on a temporary basis, i make sure that i credit them for the good things they have done.
