colored your hair and have it come out looking as though you didn't do a thing to it? That's how I feel right now. I am trying to get my hair blonde. I've colored it 3 times in the past week, each time with a different shade of blonde. The first time showed no results except a very light tint of red in my naturally dark brown hair. The second time gave the most results, and today again showed zero to little results.
I think the next time, I may just bleach all the color from my hair and then dye it blonde. What do you think?

Most times, you do have to bleach out dark hair before
it will take a lighter color. I've had natrually dark hair most of
my life. And when I try to put a lighter color over it, the
color turns either light brown or shades of red.
I tried to get my dark brown hair to go
blonde for years. There's a secret to doing it.
I talked with a friend of mine who is in the
hair salon business and he says you have to step
up the color gradually.
Here are some tips he recommended.
Go to Sally Beauty Salon and buy a professional bleaching kit.
Ask the person there for help. They can point out the right things
to buy. You won't spend more than $15, but the kit will work.
The key to getting your hair to go blonde is to follow the directions
and then wrap hair in a plastic bag over hair and fasten
at roots. No joke! Don't leave any hair exposed or it won't go blonde.
This is what I did and my hair turned blonde!
Then once the bag is in place, use a hair dryer to warm the bag.
Don't get dryer too close or will burn the bag.
Do this for 15 minutes. Then wear your hair up in the bag
for full length of time recommended on kit.
Then wash as recommended.
P.S. Bleaching your hair/turning it blonde will dry it
out, so that it feels like straw.
Be prepared to moisturize with conditioner daily.
Look for conditioners that contain protein.
You might be able to use the regular store bleaching kit
with the techniques mentioned.

My friend asked me if I had a blow dryer, I guess that's her plan. She told me to wait until she comes to visit next month and she will give me blonde highlights. I currently have Pantene Pro V fortifying treatment to get my hair back in shape after these few dyes... but I'm sure she'll help me pick up a good one while she's here.

When my hair was brown I often found it hard to get a colour to work on it and if I did then the colour would fade real quick. At the moment I am blonde and I just put peroxide on it to take all the brown out and then coloured it blonde. I am at the stage now though where I am considering going darker again, I would love to just stick a red on it and see what colour it came out, but I am too chicken!!

Well it is blonde so it would certainly come out a good bright red!!

Start with Strawberry blonde, cuz that will give you tints of red. See how ya like it before going redder.

Aw, give it a try. If you don't like it you can dye it again.

You really should be careful with your hair. My cousin tried to do her own hair. She has dark brown hair. Her hair became very coarse and there was a lot of damage to the shaft which caused breakage. You really should see a professional and have them do it.

I think each person, and their hair is different. I've colored my hair thousands of times in the past and I've never had a problem. I've never had a professional do it, and probably never will. The only thing I see a professional for is to cut it because I can't do that by myself.

When you have dark hair, you need to have the professional hair dresser bleach all the color out of it first and then apply the shade of blonde you want. The hair color you can buy at the store isn't strong enough to lift that many shades of color.
I also hope you are using a very good deep conditioner like Damage Remedy from Aveda or Three Minute Miracle from Aussie between colorings. If not, pretty soon you won't have any hair left to color!
Please let a professional do it if you really want to go from dark brown to blonde. Also, let her know what you have already done to prevent interactions that could cause a result that is undesirable.
Good luck!

I've been coloring my hair since I was 12, but I've never attempted to go blonde until now.
My best friend went to school to be a hairdresser, so I'm getting much of my advice from her.
There's no way I'd pay all that money at a salon when I can do it at home so much cheaper.

This friend doesn't live near me, she's in another country actually, but I am showing her pics and asking advice through the net.
I have bleached my hair before, about 10 years ago, assuming I'd get blonde and got red, so that's what I'll do again, in a couple weeks.

First once you lift your haircolor with tint, more tint wont lift it any more.If you have red in it an ash will tone that dwn sme and it may appear a litle lighter. The next best thing would be o go through and put some blonde highlites in it now. Try and find someone who does it at home. It is cheaper an safer. I ama hairdresser and I have seen lots of "mistakes"

The color I just used was a shade of ash.
My friend keeps talking about doing the highlights when she comes to visit next month, so maybe we'll do that.

I tried too just like you to color my hair. But dont know why it never appeared to be colored. I went to the parlor and had this done. And whola i got the new color, but to my dismay lasted only a week or so.
Do you know the reason for this?

It may not have been a permanent color. Next time you do it, make sure you tell them you want permanent color. Tell them what happened last time. Maybe even go to a different salon, cause it sounds like that one jipped you.

Yes, I have had that happened once or twice actually. I colored it dark brown and it did not look I did anything to it.

Your current hair color depends on what it's going to turn out. If you're fair haired, you shouldn't have a problem going darker. If you are dark haired you should buy a color much lighter than you want to go, and if you're lucky it will lighten a little bit.

I've stripped my hair once and didn't have a problem, and I have had blonde highlights, I've just never turned all my hair blonde.

I'm not going to bleach it blonde, I'm going to bleach it, then color it blonde. My hair will only bleach red. And I will not go to a salon, as it costs too much when I can easily and cheaply do it at home.

I think that's what you'll have to do to turn dark hair blonde. I think you might be best to give it a little while for your hair to recover before you subject it to another proceedure again so soon though. The last thing you want is for it all to turn green because it's in bad condition or something!

I've got a really good conditioner to help get it back in shape after all this, but I will still wait a bit before I go that route.

You will have to remove the color if you are going lighter in your hair color.. You can 't get a blonde color is your color is dark brown.. I need to remove the color from mine if I am going to a lighter color, but I have had dark brown hair for so long that I am afraid to change it.. My hair would be completely white if I would quit coloring it..

I was afraid to change mine too, that's why I started with a darker color. But the more I lighten it, the lighter I want it to go. I think the light kinda suits me.

I say good luck. Maybe you should think about buying a better product.
$3.00 really isn't much. Your hair means a lot, a whole lot if it falls out.
But I wouldn't do anything for a while. I would also think of going to a
professional. Good luck.

It is far too expensive to go that route. Doing it at home only costs me $3 each time I do it.

hi friend;
i think you have your own standard to dye your hair. as for me, when i was in school,i have that idea to dye my forehead hair to gold color.Becuase many students did it for a good look.but finally, because of my parents'rejection, i didn't dye it.But now, i have a formal job in society.so i think it is not suitable to dye my hair now..
Of course, you can do it any time because you are a lday..wonderful lol
