Why memorize Bible verses?

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 2:14-17) Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21) In times of trouble we can use the word of God to comfort us and to comfort other people as well. It inspires and reminds of the things that we ought to do. How about you mylotters, do you memorize Bible verses? Thank in you in advance for sharing. have a nice day!

Its giving us hope at times when there seems to be nothing left. It keeps up and have in Jesus, at time when we feel so helpless His words lift us up.

Yes God's words are sources of power,it is the lamp to my feet and the light to my path,i am happy that he is the hill from where my help comes and the truth and life. Via gods words i can be healed of my pain and sorrows and i know if I'm sad and lonely in his presence there is fullness of joy. I pray to know more of his words.

i memorized some when i was a child and i think into my twenties. memorizing came very hard for me but some verses come back to help in time of need. and for that matter lyrics from spiritual songs also help me at crucial times.

I memorize Bible verses and phrases, but I am not that good at knowing where they are n the Bible, especially when it comes from the epistles and the minor prophets. And as for what chapter, it is hard for me to know. I can quote the verses, and I know Psalm 23 off by heart, it is just that I do not have a good memory when I read something. If I hear it, then I do remember better. It is also different when you are more used to the King James version and the church uses the NIV. So I remember in the King James Version, but not the NIV.

This reminds me of how I used to be most diligent in memorising verses when i was in high school and sunday school then was made up of regular bible quizes. the finalists from the paper quizzes would be put on stage to answer questions and recite memory verses. those were fun days, and I think i was crowned champion one year. the amazing thing about memorising verses is that they stick with you over the years! I can still remember quite a few, and those came out of memorising when i was a teenager. and it's great cos you carry these truths with you whereever you are, and they are a good reminder as we weather through the various circumstances of life. God bless you dear!

I used to go to church every Sunday. I had a really hard time understanding the meaning of what the preacher was preaching. I have also read some parts of the bible also and have only rmemebered a few things from it as far as verses. yoiu are right about the word of the lord though. I praise him every day for what he has done in my life. I may not know much about the Bible but I do believe every word of it.

I do not do so anymore. It was said not to worry about what you will say in those times, because everything you need will be given.
