I really pity the beggars I see around secially the old mothers who sit near the streets and ask for money from motorists. I pity to see them but I dont really give them money coz it might encourage them to saty there and still ask for more. But no matter if I dont give others who aslo pity them would give and hoping it could somehow help their dialy needs. I give but not money, i give them food for bread.
take care!

yes I am the same I won't give money but I am willing to go buy them a meal if they are hungry, i will give them a blanket if they are cold but not money and this is only because of a few who would spend that money on other things....

I dont give money to beggars but some times if I see pregnant ladies or old people if I feel like giving I will give them, the reason why I dont give beggars is during my college days my principal use to tell me dont ever give money to beggars because your encouraging them to beg he use to tell us if you see a beggar asking you for money come home take a ruppee and put that ruppee in a kitty box , once the box is full send that money to orphonages or old age homes, during my college days I use to do that at present I am not saving any money for orphanages or old age people but some times as I told you I give money to poor people and also help people who are really in need, like by giving clothes, money and food.

I"m with you. In here I don't see many - in a manner of speaking - but in other countries I used to see a lot. I made it an habit of not giving money. I would offer to give them food, or even clothes if they seemed to be cold, but not money. I feel sorry for some of them but once we start learning a bit more about life and some of the things that happen we tend to have a different view.

Hello Zelmarq, I am answering this discussion, hopefully there's no double entry from me, -smiles-.
I sometimes try my best to be a good person. And my heart really went out to those of the poor people selling tissues or other stuffs like some delicacies on the street. And I make it a point to not take their products, instead give away the money to donate to them. I feel they need it more than me, although it's just a few cents or a dollar.

I usually give money to old people who beg some money. But for the young people, I usually not give it because they have a good body also their two hands and legs is still good and can do a lot things. I usually feel pity to old woman offering their goods to sell. They usually sell a snack. So when see that, I buy their goods and proud to them because they are not just sitting near the streets but they do something to earn some money.

I used to give them my loose change. But my sister told me not to and implore me to help them not to make them used in begging for money to help them find their own thru work. Thus, the one thing we thought of was to buy packets of biscuits whenever I do the groceries and stack it in my car.
Whenever there are beggars knocking on my car window, I would give them this biscuits instead of loose change. By this I thought that they at least will eat and be fed especially the little children. I also taught this way to my child and he tried to bring some of those packets of biscuits in going to the school and whenever he pass by some beggars this is what he will be giving instead of money.

yes, but not all of the time... i pity them all of the time but i only gave sometimes to them... that when i have more coins in my pocket... hehehe' but, i did not tolerate that kind of work by them... because it will teaches them on how to get easy money... that would make them to stay on the streets and ask for more if that is the case... so sometimes, i ignore them...

If I knew they were really in need I would but so many aren't...they are acting like that cause they know people will give and then they don't have to get a job. Few years ago pan handlers were big out here on the freeway exits -a captive audience of cars. Come to find out that they were all making several thousand dollars a month this way! So I don't give to people, but will to an organization. Even that annoys me sometimes as it seems that more money is going to the "non profit" people, than to the people they are supposedly trying to help, but ya gotta just do the best ou can with what you got and hope for the best in the end!

Hello Zelmarq,
I do exactly the same, I give them food or get them coffee or tea and something eat. I went to Paris France one week on vacation and the beggars there was awful, they just stick their hand in your face and if you don't give them anything they swear at you, disgusting people.

i have helped one long ago.. BUT where i am you rarely see a beggar fortunately :))
You know you just cant go helping all beggars you see, as you have your own families to think about and so on.. Its the government's that should help and sort it out, to provide shelter for them

i usually give money for the older people who still look like they take care about themselves. I always feel sorry for the other beggars, but most of the time the money we give are spoiling them even more. Such thoughts are present because I have also had experience when beggars were cheating (pretending they are handicapped). People who are still trying to make money without cheating often try it through other ways, for example by selling flowers. I am ready to buy some flowers from a granny, and to pay even more.

I really don't feel comfortale giving money to strangers. Besides, if I gave to one, I'd have to give to them all, and I really can't afford to do that.

I do not give money to "beggars". But I will and have been known to give money to the homeless that frequent a corner on the way to my wifes work. I have even taken a husband and wife for coffee one winter evening to warm them up. I have also given old blankets to the homeless.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I used to give to them but I just do not have it to give to them anymore. I used to feel so sorry for alot of them. there are some of them that choose not to help themselves though and it is very hard for mne to feel sorry for them, especially when my husband and I both work seven days a week, to pay our bills. I have given food and clothing also.

Normally I avoid to give money to the professional beggars, who are fit to earn or do some jobs. You are right in saying that it will encourage begging.Islam also discourages such begging.......I prefer to donate to institutions instead of individual beggars.
