It's time to leave for a week's vacation and I'm dreading having to leave my Golden. I've become too attached to that dog. I know I shouldn't have gotten so attached but they just soak up any affection you give them and they give it back in return. I'm leaving him in the hands of my next door neighbor who has 5 other dogs whom she loves dearly so I know he will be in good hands. But it still doesn't make it any easier. How do you feel when you have to leave yours?

Thanks for your response vvvipo. Believe me, I would if I could. But unfortunately, the timeshare where we stay frowns upon such magnificent animals.

We took a week long vacation from Pa to Tennessee, so we couldn't take our Chesapeake along. We did check her into the 'doggy hotel' at our vets, so I new she would be in good hands, but she was only a little over a year old. However, my s/o was worse than I was about it, he wanted to call the vet's office almost everyday to check on her! I wouldn't let him! lol When we got back we were told that she could not come back to the 'hotel', they took her outside to play in their fenced area and she tried to climb the fence lol. She had never before or since tried to climb any fences lol. But now we usually go somewhere just for the weekend and usually it's to a campground that we can take her with us. I had a golden and I know what you are talking about, they are so loving. I'm sure she will be fine with your neighbor.

Thanks for your response, palonghorn. I never have to worry about Sonny climbing fences. In fact, when he comes to a gate or door that's slightly ajar he will not come through it if he feels he can not fit his whole body through without touching it. He's never tested his boundaries since we've had him. I suspect that dog has claustrophobia. I appreciate your encouraging words about leaving him with my next door neighbor.
