I started building models when I was 5 or 6 years old...I'm 40 now. I've built a little of everything...cars, planes, ships, military, etc. Is there anyone else on mylot that builds models or has built them, or would like to try? Tell me a little about what you enjoy building the most, about what you like and dislike about the hobby, or anything else about the hobby you'd like to discuss.

My fiance builds cars and truck models. He enjoys doing those and messing with his RC trucks! but that is one expensive hobby!

Yes, both of those model building hobbies are expensive. And, they're a lot of fun too. Thanks for your response. I'm hoping to soon begin uploading photos of models I've built, my hobby room, and models I've collected(and it's a bunch of them), so I'll send you a friend request so that you'll be able to share those photos with your fiance too.

My father brought home an F4-phantom 1:72 scale one time when I was 10 years old. Then a zero, a twin jet Cessna mustang and finally an F1 formula racer. I really had a great time building those one though I never tried the air brush painting, just the stickers. That bobby is very expensive and if not for that I would still be making one. When ever I pass one model kit store I cannot resist myself to at least glance on whats new. If ever I would build one today, I would build the millennium falcon.

Thanks for responding. It is an expensive hobby. I've seen it get more and more expensive over the years. I have one model that I paid about $150 for. It's amazing how the hobby has grown over the years. The products that are available from detail kits, to decals, to tools just goes to show how special the hobby is. It's funny you should mention the Millenium Falcon. I have two models of it. One is the regular version and the other is the cutaway version. Both are unfinished. Thanks again for your response. I'm sending you a friend request. I hope to soon begin uploading photos of models I've built, my hobby room(when I get it cleaned up), and the huge collection of unbuilt models I've collected over the years(yes I hope to build them all eventually).

Not me personally, but my husband has built many models in his time. After we got together he got into building and flying R/C planes. Though he lost interest in it for a little bit after his father's dog wrecked the last one my husband built. She literally ran into it! LOL Don't worry, the dog was okay. My husband is just getting back into flying R/C planes though he bought an ARF this time as he just didn't want to bother with building it. Poor guy does enough building in his line of work.

I have never built models, but I think it is a fine hobby and would like to get my 12-year-old son involved in building them. He loves to build thing and goes from one thing to another when he finds something he can build. I think he'd really enjoy building models.

I think he would enjoy building them, too. Encourage him to give it a try. There are some model builders out there, like myself, that are so dedicated to the hobby, that the models they build is nothing short of artwork. If there is a hobby shop, that sells models, where you live, take him by for a visit. They should be able to answer any of your questions about the hobby and help you get started, but if not, feel free to send me a message. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have or give you any advice you may seek. Also, you should check out finescalemodeler.com, the website to the best model building magazine I've ever seen. Good luck, and welcome to the hobby.
