well i was just wondering how do u wash your clothes? i have a washing machine but that i use only for heavy clothes like bedcovers curtains etc....for daily clothes i have a domestic maid who washes with hand and a brush and a bar soap (detergent)..i had noticed that the cuffs and collars do not get cleaned if totally left for the machine so they have to be scrubbed before being put in the machine..do you scrub the cuffs and collars before putting in the machine? how do you wash clothes in which the colors run? whaich is your favourite detergent powder ? i use Surf Excel.. do you have a washing machine for your clothes or you go to the Laundrett?

I wash everything in the washing machine. I use mostly cold water and the gentle cycle on lots of clothes. I've discovered that even things that say they have to be hand washed can be washed in the machine. And so can some things that are labeled dry clean only. I separate whites from darks, and delicates from not-so-delicate clothes.

If collars and cuffs are dirty, I use a spray on them. That gets the dirt out just fine.

i never used laundrette, that would be much work and expensive.. I have automatic washing machine i use for just about all my washing, few items i will wash by hand, especially new dress The worse thing for me at the moment, is the drying of them, as weather here been raining much.. So have to hang over radiators. anyway everything goes in the machine.. If odd item don't come out totally stain free then id just leave to soak in stain remover detergent for a little while.. Scrubbing to hard can ruin some materials

hi nupats dont have a maid but do have a wash room here in our apartmentcomplex so I use the washers and dryers when I do a wash. I would never do laundry by hand as modern washers do so much better a job and get the clothes so much cleaners with plenty of hot water and my favorite soap, tide.YOu must not have a very modern machine or else you cuffs and collars would come out sparkling clean in a modern washer . I wash anything in which the colors might run separately from the restof the wash of course.

We have washing machine too. I only use the machine if I dont have much time to wash my clothes. Usually for those heavy garments and maong pants. I used detergent that is good in removing dirt. I brush first the collar or parts of the clothes that has more dirt before puting it in the machine.

Washing machine and Tide are perfect partners. I soak the whites with tide for 30 minutes and then scrub lightly the collar are before putting them to the washing machine. I tried using other laundry powder none so far beats Tide

Actually this is my mommy's work at times when she falls sick and when servant is absent i like to help my mom by washing it by myself eventhough we have a washing machine at home.we use it for heavy clothes as u said say we use it once in a month and also when it rains.. while it rains we cannot dry the clothes outside since our washing machine is having a drier we would feel more comfortable to wash and dry it in one go.. in future i would like to have a washing machine when im married

I wash my clothes my self with hands...we had a care taker who washed my clothes. but now as she is married and gone .. I have to wash my clothes with hands.. As my machine is totally useless!! It cleans nothing... I don't cleans the clothes at all .. cleaning the collars is a far away thing!!! I like my clothes totally cleans and white ones totally white ... so its better I wash them with my hands. It is also making me independent .. am not depending on any one else and neither on any machine.. I use surf excel soap.. :)

I put everything in a basket and hand it to my children or husband and they take it down the road to the washer machine then the dryers then everyone helps put up the the laundry, ' we are doing laundry today, and I really hate messing with laundry we just have too many clothes so I am getting ready to get rid of more clothes, I have already gotten rid of a bunch I have two bags full ready to go now, The kids out grow stuff very fast and people keep giving me the clothes their kids have outgrown, if everyone would just stay the same size that would be helpful, and if the clothes would just not wear out, and it storage was not a problem. the laundry monster problem would be solved....lol

Well I think it is an excellent topic because it reveals the life styles of different members around the world. For instance, how many USA/Canada/Europe members of Mylot have daily maids for washing and housework, I wonder? When we first lived in Africa, my newly wed wife insisted that she wanted to do everything in our home herself. That lasted about six months! When word got out that we had no staff in the house or garden it was less than two days before the doorbell started ringing with men and women asking for a job. In the end we relented and took on staff like everyone else and those staff remained with us for many years and became an essential part of the family. Now in the UK we can't afford staff, even part time. Back to the topic - haha - we use a washing machine for most things but collars and cuffs are given a good scrub and soak before hand. Woolens are washed by hand and drip dried. Colours go in a separate washing machine cycle but sometimes there is a mistake and I have several pairs of underclothes a delicate shade of pink or blue!! haha

I have a machine that the former owner of my house kindly left for me and I was very glad after looking at prices! It's an old one and very vigorous so I wash on the delicate cycle to make my clothing last longer. I usually use the cheapest detergent because I've learned that detergent is only there to break the water tension and let it go through your clothing. Without it, the water wouldn't penetrate as well and your clothes wouldn't get clean. I haven't noticed that more expensive detergent does a better job than the cheap stuff. I do agree that collars and cuffs, that get the most wear and the most dirt on them, need to be scrubbed or treated before washing. You are fortunate to have someone to do your laundry! However, since it's just me, I don't have much to do. When I was married and my boys were living at home I had the laundry of 4 people to do and washed every day!

I wish I could afford a maid for anything! A nanny would be great too! I do all of our laundry, in the washing machine. I usually use Tide with Febreeze. My son tends to get rashes from other detergents. The only thing I do before the wash is put stain remover on my son's clothes if he spilled any of his medicine. And I hand wash his sheets and blanket in the tub because he wets the bed (he's only 3, but I'm no longer wasting money on pull ups) and the smell doesn't always come out in the wash alone. I wash everything together on warm, and *knock on wood* have never had colors run. If someone had a new red item, I may wash that with towels alone for a few washes.

Looks like you sweat a lot. Those stains get pre-treated with some detergent, but then everything just goes into the laundry machine. I feel sorry for you maid to have to do this by hand. It's hard labor trying to get those stains out manually.

A maid who hand washes your clothing? Wow, must be nice. Not too many of us in the US have the money to hire a maid to do our laundry. I have a washer and dryer that do my laundry. LOL As for detergent, Tide is my favorite. I wouldn't know why your clothes wouldn't come clean in the washer, unless you are employed in a job that gets you overly dirty. I wash all of my clothing in cold and they come out perfectly clean. Saves me money also by using only cold water, plus I don't have to worry about the colors running.
