I am the one who will watch the news and weather every day just so I know what is going on in the world locally and around the world. I will also watch the weather to see what is in store for us. I had watched the weather early yesterday morning and it said it was suppose to be nice didn't speak of no rain or anything. Last night it was about shy of 2:00AM I'm sitting at my computer and the only light on was the one on my desk. My cat came over to me meowing but in a way like somethng was wrong. I talked to him asking "what's a matter baby?" I had left the windows open a crack to let some air in and the fan going to circulte the air. He slowly walked towards the slightly cracked window and kept looking up at it. I turned around in my chair and looked at th window but saw nothing. I went back to what I was doing. He then again came to me meowing and looking at the window knowing something wasn't right I took a peak out the window and I saw a quick flash of lightning and a small rumble of thunder. He was telling me that a storm was comeing. I never even noticed anything for I was to involved with what I was doing plus the fan makeing noise. Now I am petrified of lightnning storms they just scare me. I turned every thing off and went to bed. The lightning kept lighting up the room like it was day time then boom the thunder. I was scared and my cat stayed with me the whole time for reassurance. The weather channel never said we were suppose to get any storms I guess it just snuck apon us in surprise. Has this ever happend to you? do you like lightning storms or are you not fond of them? share your stories.

Although I love watching a good light show in the sky I do have a fear of lightning. Several years ago I was sitting on my couch, which was about 3 feet from my big double windows in the livingroom, just watching tv when a huge storm hit our area. The lightning was striking every few seconds and way too close to home. I thought it would be a good idea to unplug my tv and vcr just to be on the safe side. Just as I walked in front of the windows a bolt of lightning hit about 20 feet from the window. The sound was deafening and I could hear the electrical charge sizzle in the air. It almost knocked me off my feet. My window screens lit up like a Christmas tree and whether it was fear or electricity, every hair on my body stood straight up and I was unable to move for about 20 seconds. I sat back down on the couch to catch my breath and all of a sudden the 3 teeth where I had fillings started to hurt really bad. About 10 minutes after that the side of my face that was facing the window during the strike felt hot. I walked to the mirror and it looked like I had a mild sunburn on that side of my face but the other side was normal. The next day the burn was barely noticeable but those 3 teeth hurt for about a week. To say the least it was a very close call and I don't want to have another experience like that again. We have also had storms sneak up on us that weren't predicted or expected. I live in the midwest so we always have weird weather and have learned to expect the unexpected. During major storms I just keep the local tv station on that has the best Doppler radar and hope that the meteorologist and the radar can tell me exactly when we're gonna to get hit and how bad it's going to be. Animals definitely know when something is going on. They get nervous too!

That sounds like it was really bad. I never thought you could get an electric charge like that. I live on the first floor of an apartment complex and I have fillings to so could that happen to me as well? My couch sits like 8 ft. away from the bay window in the liveing room. Yes it is very scary to be in situations like this. Take care and please be careful. :)

I always thought that I was safe inside the house too but lightning does very strange things and none of them good for the human body when they get too close! An ex-boyfriend of mine told me about how he was sitting in a bar with some friends one night. It started storming with huge bolts of lightning. One strike was very close and knocked all the electricity out in the bar. Within a split second a glowing ball of lightning came thru the door and hit the bar. Thank goodness nobody was hurt but the bar got a little scorch mark! I try to be very careful during storms nowadays. I won't use a wall phone, only a cordless or my cell. I won't touch my kitchen faucet or take a shower during a storm either since lightning can charge copper pipes throughout your house. It sounds a little silly to be so overly cautious since the odds of lightning striking you inside your house are astronomical. But being cautious never hurts and having a close call with that much electricity does hurt! I can vouch for that.

Wow lightning actually traveled through the door and ended up getting the bar your ex was sitting at? I would have been scared if I was him. I'm glad to know that no one got hurt and only minor damage was done. Yes we need to be vey cautious when a storm strikes any where's near us. Please keep safe for I know I will I hide in the hall way with my headphones on til it passes. I'm a wicked scaredy cat when it comes to those things. We had one yesterday off and on and I hid. We are expected more through out the week but I will just go hide til they are done lol.
