both,katherleen.
i feel touched by the melody than the lyrics,i like listen to pop music.now,i love to listen "apologize" by timberland.the lyrics are easy to understand.but i think he sings well.especially the line:" it's too late to apologize,it's too late."

The music is more important to me, especially when I'm listening to the song for the first time, because if I don't like the music I'm not going to listen to the song regardless of what the lyrics say. One example I can give you is rap. There are probably some really good rap songs, lyrics-wise, that have a really good story or meaning, but, I absolutely can't stand the way rap sounds. It's annoying to me. I'll never know what good stories lie within the rap music because I can't stand to listen to the music long enough too see.

it varies. there are many songs that i like but don't care for the lyrics. like radiohead's creep. i don't like when he calls himself a creep and weirdo. i understand he feels inferior. but some songs the lyrics really make it.

Lyrics like poetry always catch me first . U2 has alot of great lyrics that seem to speak to me . Best is to enjoy both and it is the best of both worlds then .
Sometimes , it seems songs are singing our life , ya know
