Do you ever get irritated that you can't stay awake?

Lately, I've been wanting to stay up late and read. However, come 11:00 p.m., my eyes are closing. No matter how hard I try, I can't stay awake! That means I don't get to read my book! Frustrating!
Do you ever get mad or upset that you cannot stay up as late as you want? Or am I the only one that feels this way? There's something so decadent about staying up late and night. And I want to do more of it but I just can't stay awake! Does this happen to you?

Yes,this happens to me too! I know why I can't stay up, it's because I get up around 5 a.m., then I try to take a nap in the afternoon and that doesn't even help.
I love reading late into the night and miss doing it. I do read for a little bit, just to help make me relax and unwind from the day.

I have been on a roll lately and have been able to read some at night. I try to read at least one chapter.
What is standing in my way, is that the girls are staying up later than they usually due since it is summer vacation! LOL

Hi kimbers867.
Good to know there are other frustrated people out there who want to read instead of sleep! Gosh, if I got up at 5 a.m., I wouldn't even make it until 10:00 p.m. before I'd be sleeping. Naps don't seem to help me stay up later either.
I do love to read late into the night (like you said), though, after I go to bed. There's just something about it that's special.
Well, take care, kimbers867. And, happy late night reading.

Unfortunately I have the opposite problem. I can't fall asleep!
I would give anything to be able to have the ease of just getting
into bed and nodding off. I used to fall asleep when I read. Now
not even that works. It's really frustrating for me. I wish we
could trade problems just for a little while. That would be so
fun! Enjoy the fact that you can sleep-just think of me staying
up sometimes all night and not being able to function all day.
It's not any fun believe me. I've been to doctors and no one
seems to be able to find anything to help me. They have tried.
Medications don't work. They won't give me sleeping pills because
that is addicting and only a temporary fix.

Hey there, Opal26.
Sorry to hear about your insomnia. Yes, that is an awful thing not to be able to get to sleep. I have also had that problem when my blood pressure is not controlled. Since I lost weight and take my half-pill of blood pressure meds, I sleep like a baby.
In fact, one way that I can tell if my blood pressure's high (without checking it with the blood pressure cuff, of course) is how I'm sleeping.
I'm sure you've probably researched the subject of insomnia as there are lots of little tips and tricks that you might try. Good luck with that, Opal26.
Thanks for responding and do take care.

I sometimes experience that problem. I dont read that many boooks that are unputdownable though. Usually I am more than happy to go to sleep because I am tired and dont feel like being awake any more. Once in awhile I will be into a really good book and experience the issue you are talking about though. I try to read until my cusiousity is satisfied and then no more.

Hello snowy22315.
Gosh, I tend to get a hold of a lot of books that I have trouble putting down! Even so, I do love to sleep, just not when I'm reading a good book. Yes, I do the same if I find myself fighting to stay awake--I try to finish the chapter I'm on, then, it's lights out. Thanks for your response and take care.

I am a late night person, but I seem to have a huge problem watching films. I can watch tv and stay awake, but stick a film on, even one I really wish to see, and I can fall asleep before the first half of the film is over :)
This has also happened to me a few times at the cinema. I get in the nice warm, dark and cosy cinema, stick a film on the screen and I can be a goner. Bit of a waste of money hence why I don't go very often.

Hello eveeee.
That is a rather interesting dilemma. I guess you haven't seen the end of very many films! Frustrating. I did fall asleep once in a movie theater but it was a film my husband wanted to see and I wasn't all that interested in.
Lucky you, though, if you are a late night person, you get to stay up late and read. Which I think is absolutely fantastic! Take care and thanks for your response.

splash water in my face just to be awake. Sometimes i will
drink coffe to keep my eyes and mind active. But most of the
time i just stop reading and go to bed.[/b]

Hi reckon21.
It sounds like you really make an effort to try to stay awake when you are falling asleep while reading. I usually just finish the chapter I'm on and turn off the light and go to sleep. I have been decaffeinated for over 20 years, so I definitely would not try the coffee. Well, at least you do stop reading and go to sleep most of the time.
Thanks for responding, reckon21. Sweet dreams.

I don't have this problem, lol. I wish I did sometimes because I feel like I am awake for too long at night, I have problems sleeping. On the other hand, my boyfriend can relate to this, lol. He is always falling asleep in the middle of movies that we watch at night and then I end up getting pissed off at him for it. :) It's kinda cute though.

Daphers,
I won't say you are lucky because you have problems sleeping. But, I guess you could be reading an awfully lot of books!
I'm not sure, at this point, which is worse--not being able to stay awake or not being able to fall asleep. Hope you have pleasant dreams and can get to sleep always, Daphers.
Thanks for your response.

I fall asleep all the time so I can relate to you on that. I like to sit and read and before I know it I am nodding off. I like also to get on the computer and am on there for a long time. Even there I will start to nod off which does have a tendency to frustate me. What I have started doing is every once in a while I will get up from the computer and walk around. This seems to be working somewhat good.

You're not alone. It happens to me all the time! And I hate it as well because sometimes I really just want to finish reading a good chic lit but no matter how much I'm enjoying my eyes just keep getting heavier. And even while mylotting, i sometimes sleep in the middle of typing a response. But I figured out that the best way is to sleep when you feel sleepy because it refreshes your mind and relaxes your body, which is probably what you need in the first place. So, just give in and hit your bed threads for a blissful sleep.:)

No I don't get irritated. I suffered from insomnia for so many years, that the feeling I get right before I actually fall asleep is very welcoming to me. Do I get irritated when I'm tired though? Of course I do. Like most people I don't have much patience when I'm tired, but never right before I fall asleep.

There are some nights that I just don't want to go to bed....I'd rather stay up for a while....but usually I end up staying up just a little later as I do get sleepy at my usual bedtime....And there is something decadent about staying up a little later....it's like being a rebel! LOL

Oh my gosh, you understand me completely! Decadent is the perfect description. I love staying up late when I can do it. But, alas, my body usually reminds me that I need to go to sleep. Perhaps staying up late is indicative of my "rebellious streak."

Your Late Night Sister

Hi PearlGrace, I know eactly how you feel I have three books at the moment which I dearly want to read but I get into bed read the first few pages and then my eyes are so tired I just have to put the book down. I try to go to bed about 10pm so I can do this but then get caught up on discussions in myLot and before I know it it may be midnight so I think to get the books read I'll have to discipline myself to switch off at 10pm and no later LOL. Ellie :D

Greetings ellie333.
We are in the same boat. I have several books I really want to read. Last night, I just had to get off the computer early. Then, we watched a movie, then, I read my book for awhile. And I've gotta admit, it was great to get in to a good book again.
The key for me is setting small do-able goals on myLot. That way, I can feel okay about shutting it down to read. I definitely know what you mean about getting caught up in discussions on here. Take care.

I am the same just lately, I have gone from being able to stay up way past midnight to having to go to bed at 10-30 - 11.00 pm at the latest. I go through stages of it, I would love to be able to go to bed really late and still get up the next day feeling as fresh as a daisy but it just does not happen. I just get so tired that I cannot concentrate on anything anymore and just have to go to bed.

Hi gemini_rose.
I notice that when I get a full 8 hours of sleep, I feel like a million bucks. However, that tends not to happen during the week, especially on days I work. That's because it's lights out at 11 p.m. and the alarm goes off at 6:30 a.m. You'd think that last 30 minutes wouldn't make such a difference, but for me, it does.
For example, both nights this weekend, I've gotten a full 8 hours of sleep and I can't get over how much better I feel. During the week, though, it's back to 7 or 7 1/2 hours of sleep.
Sometimes, when I'm trying so hard to read, the urge to sleep is just overwhelming. I just HAVE to turn out the light and sleep. Guess I've just gotta surrender to it. Thanks for responding. Take care.

Oh yes, indeed. I often get upset with myself about not being able to stay away. But I have chronic fatigue (and fibromyalgia). I can feel my body shutting down and when that feeling hits, I have about 15-30 minutes to get myself into bed before I fall into a deep sleep. Needless to say, I don't drive around town much. The bank and grocery store are close to the house.

Hi kenzie45230.
So sorry to hear about your chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. It sounds like you are quite in tune with your body and know exactly what it needs when it needs it. None the less, I'm sure that you get frustrated that you cannot stay awake longer at times. Thank you for posting to this discussion, kenzie45230. I wish you improved health and happiness.

umm yes at times... i just want to lay down and sleep. not interested in doing anything or talking to anybody. when i feel a little irritated already i would drink coffee to prevent me being irritated coz i might offend people and they won't understand it.

Greetings MaeTsuen.
That's interesting that coffee keeps you from getting irritated with others. Yes, it's important not to offend others with our moods, isn't it? I guess we just have to surrender to the feeling of wanting to sleep. Thanks for your response.

Actually I wish I could go to sleep at night without depending on sleeping pills. I do like to read late at night also and I stay up until midnight or 1am and read a little bit. Then I take my Bi Polar meds and I'm out like a light as soon as they kick in. Without them I don't sleep at all and I really hate being dependent on medication for sleep. :)

Hi cwilson26.
Love your little kitty picture!
Sorry to hear that you have to take sleep medication. I'm sure that gets old after awhile. But it does sound like they help you sleep. And we all know how important sleeping is.
We share liking to read at night, don't we? Enjoy your late night reading, cwilson26. Thanks for your response.

this happens to me a lot... especially when I'm doing my assignments I tend to fall asleep. Even though I enjoying what im doing my body seems to have a mind of its own and moves itself to bed.^^ its really frustrating because when I need t finish certain projects I miss them. But drinking a hot cup of choco and listening to some motivating music could also wake you up..

Well, sethbabs, it sounds like you've figured out ways to keep yourself awake. I haven't tried any of that. I get a little nervous that if I were to eat chocolate that late, I might not be able to sleep at all! But, you no doubt have a system that works for you.

If I want to stay up late to read or work in the computer, I drink coffee or any power drink that has ginseng. I'm even awake till the wee hours in the morning. The only thing is I'm sleepy the next day.

Hi jenalforque.
It sounds like you've solved the problem of how to stay awake! However, I don't like being groggy the next day, so that might not work for me.
I guess I have to resign myself to go to sleep when my body says it's time. Take care.
