How to tell whether the chinese money is real?

My friends will go to xi an, a city in China this summer.
He was told in china he can not totally rely on credit or debit card and he needs cash for his daily life. But he has no experience using Chinese money and he wants to know whether there are some easier way to tell the difference between the fake and the real chinese money?

It is difficult to distinguish the fake and the real chinese money by forengier,and havn't the easier way.
i tell you a better way to prevent getting the fake chinese money?You tell your friend exchange RMB 100yuan into RMB 10yuan or 20yuan in the bank when he in China.when he used money,he can use 20yuan or 10yuan par value. it is few fake chinese money in 10yuan and 20yuan par value.In this way,he can prevent receive the fake RMB100 yuan or RMB 50yuan.The other way to prevent receiving fake chinese money is go shopping in the supermarket or big store.
