What do you think of long winding discussions?

I don't see the need to have long discussions here. Let it be short and direct to the point. I have come across few discussions which nearly occupy half my computer screen. It is so boring to see a long discussion without any paragraph and long sentences with few comas. It makes my eyes popped out reading these long sentences with no comas in between. I have to use my mouse to go along the lines to make sure that I am not missing anything. By the time I finish reading the post I have lost interesst in the whole discussion, I just skip it and move to the next topic. What about you?

I think it depends on the subject being discussed. I agree that when posting, the post must be well spaced with commas and emoticons also can be used to make the discussion easily readable.
But the length of the discussion cannot be restricted as some topics need lengthy explanation whereas others can be short, simple, precise and clear.
Finally, it simply depends on the topics to be discussed and another factor is the mylotter's knowledge- if he/she has a thorough understand about the topic, he will tend to post much lengthy posts whereas those who just have a basic understanding about the topic will probably post small contents.

Not necessarily. Long does not necessarily mean complete. To convey what you have in your heart, simply outline the main points and set the main points out with some brief explanation. Your message will impact the receiver's mind directly.

I agree for the most part. Short and sweet would be nice, though some things need to be explained or discussed further. As for grammar and punctuation, being a reader and writer, I like to see this done correctly. That said, I understand those who don't have time or care to worry about how their comments look. I am, after all, a fan of e.b. white.

your right, for me a discussion doesn't have to be so long that it gets boring and it doesn't also needs to be one liner that its not even interesting at all..it has to be short and simple to understand..when its long enough, i hardly read it all, i find myself skipping some lines and when i reach the bottom i almost forgot what is it all about and i just skip it to the next discussion..

I think it depends on the subject. I don't mind the length if it's interesting but I must agree on the remarks about punctuation. Sometimes it's hard to make sense of, so I usually stop and go on to the next response.
I don't like too short a reply either though. To me that just seems like they are trying to make as many posts as they can, without adding anything useful.

I only like long discussions if they are on a topic that really have my attention. Short ones are may favorite. If there is a long discussion on something that doesn't have my interest, I'll skip it.

No matter how long if it is worth the reading then why not? I believe that for as long as it is done in an intelligent manner and worth the reading, then I'd go on reading! However, it you read a post that does not attract your interest then chances are you will really get bored. That is why, I always see first those posts that are in my lists of interests. This way, I could avoid getting bored even while reading long posts. But long posts are always welcome to me!

Who likes long discussion? I think most of us, if not all, feel bored to read long discussions. We wouldnt even want to type long discussions. But I think I have read somewhere here in mylot that the longer the discussion, the higher the pay.

I agree. If a discussion goes on and on, I either don't read it or I don't bother finishing it. I guess I just have a short attention span.
I also agree that it is much more difficult to follow a train of thought that isn't puctuated or separated into paragraphs. These kind of responses remind me of a professor that I had in college. He was a monotone that droned on. I fell asleep everyday in his class.
Good topic, maybe those who are guilty will recognize themselves and try to improve

Thumbs up for you. We are here to give out good readable post and not trying to waste others time by writing a mini novel. Go straight to the point and don't drags people time. The title is good enough to bring across the meaning of the post and only need one or two paragraphs to elaborate.

I love long discussions! It's where you can get a feel of the writer's personality and thoroughly understand where they are coming from.
However, I do see where you are coming from about the missing punctuations. Lol, to amend my sentence above, I love long discussions ONLy when they made sense =)

Discussion is discussion it has no barring on my originality. Only when you are long enough here you'll realize that there is more interesting topics to respond to then a topic which brings you around like alice in wonderland but only have one meaning which is the subject of the discussion.

I prefer short discussions. I always use simple and short sentences to share my ideas. I'm not the detailed-type of person. As long as I can capture the message, I don't need to know the vague details.

I don't mind long discussions but I know what you mean about missing punctuation and separating thoughts into paragraphs.
I do get more enjoyment out of a discussion when I know where one sentence ends and another begins. If there is no punctuation or capital letters I have to read it 2 or 3 times before I can figure out what the person is really trying to say.
It doesn't take much effort to pay attention to punctuation. I wish more people would avail themselves of the opportunity to be better understood.

Well most of my discussions are pretty much direct and to the point and not long winded...but then every once in awhile, I have to admit I'll post a really long winded one especially when I really get "into" it. One of my most recent discussions turned out exactly like that...very long winded. When I was typing it out I had no idea it would turn out that long until it was posted. But then, I am a writer. I'm not a great one for verbal communication...but sure am when it comes to writing...
I usually try to at least break the paragraphs up so it's not one long one though

I understand. Like me, you're writing spontaneously and not from a prepared text. when one is very much engrossed in the topic and typing on the keyboard at the same time, one lost control of the length of the post. I have to admit that some posts here though long is very catchy that make me want to read more. But again it got to be nicely presented with the aid of comas or breaking it into paragraphs. I salute you for being a great writer here and am not surprise by your good write ups. Excuse me if my writings are not up to the desired quality as am not from an english speaking country.

I understand. But, some topics on here tend to be philosophical in nature or require a person to really give some deep thought to what their answer will be. Such topics are not always easily answered in 1 or 2 sentences. Plus, some people have a hard time finding the right words to express themselves which can result in some discussions being so long and drawn out. I know where you're coming from, unfortunately things aren't quiet so perfect.

I don't like long discussions either unless it is very insightful. Of course some may find it hard to describe what they want to express in a short concise way. I guess newbies can be dragged into confusion by the notes of mylot which says "Please be as descriptive as possible" and type lots of redundant words in their discussions.
