Any suggestions as to how to go off sugar

I am trying to plan the best way to go off of sugar. Not really sure of the best way. I am a compulsive eater and addicted to sweets. I want to lose some weight but have not been able to give up the sugar. I do think that is really sabotaging me. Any ideas???
