Does anyone have any severe dandruff remedies that actually work? My boyfriend has major dandruff and dry scalp issues. We have tried all the different shampoos: Head and Shoulders, T-gel, Melaleuca, Denorex, Selson Blue, even Pantene Dandruff control. None of the shampoos work for him. I also apply salicylic acid to the worst areas on a daily basis. I'm really needing to find something that works, I hate to see him itching all the time. So if anyone as any ideas, or has found a remedy that works, I would surely appreciate it.

A couple of options - there is actually prescription shampoo the doctor can order. And yes it does work. I had to buy it for my son once. A cheap over the counter idea is to use listerine. Dab it on with a few cotton balls and massage into the scalp. Leave on overnight. Rinse in the morning. After a few days of this it will clear up. This also works for eyebrow flakes. In really cold winters I actually get flaky eyebrows. I know - weird. But the listerine trick works great on those too.

I've no idea which ingredient works. This was my mom's old home remedy and it does work. I would however not recommend buying the mint flavor since it has green coloring in. LOL Wouldn't want green hair.

I can't remember where I read it but try rubbing lemon on the scalp and leave it for a while before taking a bath. Try searching for home remedies in the internet. Sometimes you get the best results from remedies that doesn't cost you much.

I would think an appointment with a dermatologist is in order.

hi apwahbm if I were you I would get my boyfriend to a
dermatologist as he may be allergic to some of the shampoos
and the dermatologist would be able to prescribe something
for him that may help his dandruff and the itching at
the same time. After all you have tried allthe known
things so you need some professional help and a dermatologist
could help you with this I am sure.

Though i did experience dandruff once in a while but the secret i think is rinsing your hair thoroughly after shampooing. That's from experience. Some times i was such in a hurry that i was not able to rinse my hair very well. After a few days i can see flakes falling from my head.Another thing.....though i haven't tried it yet massage the hair with lemon.I thus help slowly get rid of dandruff, according to friends from back home.Either you can try it with your partner.

A very simple remedy for dandruff is to take about ten of 15 plain asparin. Crush them into a powder and put it into your shampoo. You will have to shake the shampoo up every time you wash your hair. This a remedy that I have told many clients to use and most of them said it worked. Much cheeper than those expensive dandruff shampoos. Please try this and I wouldnt mind finding out how well it helped.

Salicylic Acid, which I put on his scalp daily, is aspirin. Instead of putting it in his shampoo, as we have some with it in it anyway, I bought a large bottle of astringent cleaner with it as the main working ingredient and apply it to the worst spots at least once a day. I've thought about mixing the salicylic acid and tea tree oil to maximize effectiveness and am looking for other home remedies I can add to it. Thanks for the recommendation.

My grandson had a bad case of Dandruff and we tried the Head and shoulders but had no success in getting it under control. We finely found that Selsin Blue to be the only one that worked for him. I see you tried it. I have read that Listerine was supposed to be good to help clear up the Dandruff. i don't know if it works r not. I couldn't get my grandson to try it. I have also read that green tree oil shampoo is supposed to be good for it. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

A lot of dandruff problems involve fungi and it is not well-known that fungi also grow inside the body. The dandruff might only be an external symptom of a far deeper problem. Garlic is a natural fungi killer and it might be a good idea to treat your boyfriend's problem from the inside as well. There are garlic pills which he can take after meals coupled with ascorbic acid. Garlic is difficult to digest and ascorbic acid (vitamin c) helps in absorption. You might also want to apply garlic to the scalp and the method for doing this is to crush garlic into vinegar and apply it on the scalp. It might take several weeks for the problem to be completely solved but there should be a noticeable difference after one application to the scalp. Fungi builds up over a period of time and one cannot expect miraculous results. He must keep at it until the last one is out of his system.

I also use to have severe dandruff and dry scalp issues. My hair grew and blocked the dandruff from appearing, the day I got my haircut, it was so embarrassing.
When the barber brushed of my hair, so make flakes where showing, it was like a blizzard! Head & Shoulders Work for me.
Try using head & shoulders for an entire week again. It might not work right on the spot but tell your boyfriend to massage his scalp with head and shoulders and he should be dandruff-free in no time!
Glad I could help!

The only dandruff shampoo that really worked for me was Nizoral. If I remember correctly the complete name for it was Ketoconazole Nizoral. I used it religiously for 3 weeks, 3 times in a week. I did not have any snowflakes falling from my head on my shirt anymore. I could say it was very effective for me. Sadly, due to stress, I need that shampoo these days but I just couldn't find it here. I could easily buy it in my hometown but I'm in another country now. Head and Shoulders does not work for me. It seemed to have aggravated my dandruff problem even more.

The answer is 'LUSH'!! They carry this one shampoo that will help. It's called 'Soak and Float Solid Shampoo". If there isn't a LUSH in your area, you can order online. :)

This is my grandmother's remedy I still use it to this day since i pretty much have the same problem like your boyfriend including flaky eyebrows. Make a solution of 50% apple cider vineagar and 50% water apply to the scalp by parting the hair and spraying the solution, dab with cotton ball for eyebrows. Don't rinse or shampoo aferwards this is leave in solution. No need to worry about smelling like a salad the vineagar smell disipates after it dries. Lemon works too, but, it kind of hurts and burns especially if the sking was irritated by scratching. Hope this works, it is a life long treatment, but, at least is not expensive.

dandruff can be removed by messaging the hair with curd for half an hour . or u can take a few drops of lemon juice with indian gooseberry juice and apply to scalp and massage for half an hour daily before going to sleep .
dilute cider veneger with equal quantity of water and dab this with cotton into u;r scalp in between shampooing, or have a last rinse with this ,after shampooing.
this can remove dandruff.
avoid citrus fruits, bananas, tinned fruits, white flour, pickles, refined or processed food items, tea/coffee , meat ,sugar etc.
take raw food especially fresh fruits and vegetables.
hair should be brushed daily to improve circulation.
