Equals?

I am Wiccan and very proud of it. It seems that people have an extremely low tolerance for what they don't understand. I can go somewhere and start talking to someone but, as soon as they ask my religious beliefs they turn their heads and walk away. The way I look at it is that everyone has their own beliefs and we are suppose to be treated as equals so, Why aren't we?

It seems mainstream religion (catholics) have been telling us that witches are bad (and burning them) for so long that it is hard for people to accept we are normal, caring people. Those who don't know someone who is pagan or wiccan think we kill chickens and drink their blood or some other equally awful rituals. When more people understand what wicca is really about their will be a lot more acceptance, til then, we will be judged. Blessings.

This is why I tend to stay home a lot. People are so judgemental and they don't realize that we do have feelings just like them just that we believe differently. Thank you for your comment. :) Blessings

The answer is plain and simple, people are ignorant, self centered, and blind to any other belief then their own. OK, I say people in a light way, meaning the people you speak of who judge and condemn based in idiotic criteria. I can reassure you that it doesn't always go the way you say. It happens the other way too, maybe not as often, but it does. I have been on the brunt end of the stick, when someone realized I was Christian as was awaiting my daily dose of atheistic bashing. It sad, but its life, and we all must learn to ignore it, fight it, or deal with it. ~peace and blessings

I completely understand what you are saying. I do have friends that are other religions and they seem very open. Then there are the ones who try to convert and just don't respect what you believe in, these are the ones that bother me but I tend to ignore a lot of it and just walk away. I feel that if I am open to a person about their religion and not "bashing" at them then, they should show the same respect. Everyone has their own beliefs and should not be judged for them. Granted not everyone believes this but, I am glad to see that a lot of you do. +

LOL why arent we...because that would be too simple and it would take the apparently much needed drama out of ppls lives.....I personally can do without the drama thanks but for whatever reason (particularly here in the U.S compared to Canada) the insane NEED to natter, carry on, judge, discriminate and so on anything even SLIGHTLY different to the masses (which are a$$es by the way) is a must over here....I personally think its just ridiculous and sadly it can also end up being damaging, sometimes to the extreme (for example, children being removed from perfectly safe, loving homes)..sick, twisted and stupid if you ask me

Merry Met Kat :) One part of being wiccan is being open and understanding that it doesn't matter what or who you believe in just that you have faith. Unfortunatly not all religions think the same way. Stay proud and be vocal. If people don't like it.. too bad. You'll find that alot of people just don't understand. They here wiccan or witch and associate us with Satanism.. what crap. Some people are willing to have serious discussions and try to at least listen but many many won't. Just be yourself.
