'Most Haunted'

In the UK we get an investigative/docu style TV series which travels the country (and abroad sometimes) in search of paranormal activity - often in stately homes or monumental buildings.
The host is a famous presenter - Yvette Fielding, and her permanent guest is the extremely famous medium Derek Acorah.
They do not overload the investigations with electronic gagetry, but they do use a lot of 'night vision' camera's. The program is called Most Haunted.
Given that our broadcasting laws are extremely strict, and that the producers openly state that it is totally authentic - therefore incriminating themselves if they lie, the integrity of the program seems intact.
Now, if you haven't seen it, you ought to do so. Some of the things recorded in vision are amazing; orbs and sometimes movement of small objects. One of the outstanding features is the accuracy with which Derek Acorah conveys facts, through his spirit guide Sam. Derek relates names, dates, events locations etc with about 90% accuracy.
IS THIS A LOAD OF OLD CODSWALLOP, OR, IS THIS REALLY TRUE ? Are there such things as ghosts, and, are mediums REALLY communicating with another realm ?

I'd really have to go with load of old codswallop, I'm afraid. It didn't help when internationally famous medium Derek Accorah was caught making it up as he went along.
One particular show, they seeded information around the crew about a fictional ghost in a building called 'Kreed Kafer', which Derek promptly managed to get possessed by. Kreed Kafer is an anagram of 'Derek Faker'.
He's also been shown to do a little research on the supposed hauntings before going there. There was one memorable episode in Torbay where he was possessed by a pair of ghosts, and gave extravagant details about them. He was absolutely right on their histories, but didn't realise they were actually supposed to haunt a completely different building miles away.
At this point, OFCOM actually launched an investigation into the show on the charges of deception, but came to the conclusion that it was an entertainment show, not a legitimate investigation of the paranormal, and shouldn't therefore be treated as such. Any more than you'd charge Doctor Who for deception for claiming that people could travel in time in a police box.
Still, you'll notice Derek's not on the show after a certain season ;)

Thanks for that info. I'm quite disappointed now though.
We all know Derek is no longer on the show, but if what you say is the reason, then Derek has let his many fans down, as well as himself and the show.
I shall look at OFCOM in order to find the invigilation on this matter. How did you know this?

Oh, it made the news at the time in a lot of the newspapers. His Wikipedia entry has a fair few of the details at http://tinyurl.com/6kzelr , and www.badpsychics.com has quite a bit more about him. I don't watch the show much myself, but my mother's a big fan of show before and after he left, so I got to hear about a lot of it ;)

I LOVE Most Haunted!!! Even though Derek is no longer with them, I like David Wells, too. I can't be so sure about some of the taps and bangs but I have seen some light anomalies and heard some creepy sounds. I love it when they do their annual Halloween investigations because it let's the viewers interact as well.
Since there isn't anybody to convince you that it's real, I would suggest that you go and do some investigating yourself. Pick a place that is reputable to be haunted and spend some time there (not alone) and do it a few times. There's no evidence like experience itself!
I have one suggestion for the Most Haunted crew, and I hope others agree, they need to keep there cameras off each others faces and their own and keep it focused on the room or area itself.

Really..CODSWALLOP? LOLOL!
OK..forst..all of my friends that watch it call Yvette "The Screamer Lady!" No matter if it's a spider or a sound..."AHHH!" comes out!
I think Derek seems to have authenticity and knowledge? But I think are only supporting staff. There is one other man that seems fairly accurate, but not as much so as Derek.
I believe OSME are able to get information..and some are not.
I prefer the electronic proof, like EVP, thermal cameras, other scientific proof, etc..and that approach? But Derek does seem to have something the others do not.

I think that ghosts, mediums, other worldly creatures really do exist. The program sounds really interesting, I wish I could tune in. You might find a book called "Your Immortal Body of Light" by Dr. Mitchell E. Gibson interesting. He has some interesting explanations regarding other worldly creatures.

Dear cbreeze,
Thank you for your response, and especially the reference to the book. I love reading things like that, and I shall be searching for it tomorrow.
Thanks again,

like you i love all this stuff but if i'm honest i always felt most haunted showed me less proof than any others i have recently started watching paranormal state. I find that much more interesting and they explain in detail and dismiss anything that has scientific fact although there are some things they can't explain. No one is ever going to believe unless they have experienced it themselves. Thats the way society is, if they have an explination they'll use it and say it's a fake. I believ in ghosts and have a friend who is psychic i have a few pictures where it looks like orbs but am told it could just be dust i have no idea? It makes life more interesting to believe in another world above and beyond our own.
happy posting
