Life Threatning Situations

First I want to say that I'm not trying to draw pity from this topic, but just now when replying to a comment to one of my posts, I thought about all of the life threatning situations I've actually been in and how blessed I am to still be here!
I've been through domestic abuse, been shot at, held hostage, mugged, and many other situations that I was saved from.
These events in my life have taught me to be grateful for each day and to not take life for granted. I also know there are many people that have been through worse things.
It makes me wonder do people take things that happen to them as just a part of life and take life for granted or do they beleive it was something they had to go through to make them more grateful for their life and maybe change their beliefs?

Hi LadyT, I can really relate to what you are saying here and many of us have experienced many situations which maybe we don't openly share here, one of my most scariest moments was to have a Trident cross bow at my head but the bolt ended up beinf fired into two books of yellow pages instead, thankfully so yes I cherish each moment I live. I prayer for others too that they might feel joy in their lives rather than despair from these situations and become stronger for having lived through them. Everything happens for a reason and some of the situations I have lived through have given me the empathy to help others maybe going through it now. I thank God for each and every day. Ellie :D

Hello Ellie,
That had to have been very scary for you and it's a blessing that you weren't hurt. I know many people have been through so much, even more than I have, and I used to not talk about it. Most of them I've put out of my mind, but it all came rushing in on me when I was replying to one of your posts I believe.
Prayer is very helpful and I find myself praying now all throughout the day, just thanking Him and praying for others.

I'm sorry to see you have had such bad experiences in your life but I do understand how you have learned from them to be grateful every day and to value your life more.
I haven't had any life threatening experiences, but I have had many difficult, bad and sad ones. I now feel gratitude every day of my life. Even when I am feeling low, I know I have been through much worse and that I am strong. I will always find a way out of difficulties and I can survive whatever life throws at me.
I enjoy my life more now and I am generally much happier. I value myself and my life. I am grateful for what I have, rather than thinking about things I don't have.

Hi Paid2Write,
You have the right attitude about life and bad situations, something that it took me a while to get to after going through depression and the likes, but doesn't it feel great when you get there?!
Thinking of how you got through a difficult time really helps when those low patches are hit. I used to just wallow in it but now I'll turn on some uplifting music, pray, or find some good comedy or immerse myself in something "busy".
Even coming to myLot more often than I used to has helped.
