i ask that question coz at the end of this term, one of the students on behalf of the whole class, gave me some gift, say, 10 minutes ago, now i came back to my office, i wonder why they give that gift to me, they say they feel be grateful to my entertaining and informative teaching, but is there any other reason? lol i'm not it's a bribe or not, lol, but i accepted it at last. how do you think of that? can a teacher accept a student's gift/present?

Now a days, I know many parents that get gifts for their kids to give to their teachers on Holidays, or at the end of the school year. Especially when they feel that their teacher has been a benefit to their child as well. So that is probably the reasoning behind you getting that gift, and I personally see nothing wrong with it, unless it means something that you were not tending to imply in the first place as well. Just my thoughts.

I think that they can. Sometimes students give gifts just because it was a nice teacher, not necessarily expecting something in return. Back in high school when the chemistry professor left, we gave her a Playstation because she was one of our favorite teachers.

I wish to have students like you and your friends when I start teaching full time! That's a great gift and very expensive. Good job for you showing a teacher that they are making a difference in students' lives.

I think it's a really nice gesture, maybe in some cases it might have an ulterior motive behind it, but I think that most students are just tryint to show their appreciation. I think that it is good that you accepted the gift, I mean, if they had offered it to you specifically in exchange for a better grade or something I'd say that would be a time not to accept a gift, because it would be kinda wrong to accept something in exchange for a better grade. But I think it says a lot about what kind of teacher you are, you must really offer a lot to your students! Basically, I think most the time it's obvious if a student is just doing this to get on your good side.

maybe they wanna be a good grade, but you know it's a open-ended exam, they can find the exam answers from their notes, i have to make it clear that they are adult students, lol, i partly believe that i do teach them well, and they do learn something or thoughts in my class, but i also have to say that some of them, around 3 of them are sometimes absent from the class, their attendance is not that good. lol

i think it is normal thing to recive the grateful gift from your students.Because they are happy with yout teaching and want to express their thank and honor to you.AS a tacher, nothing is important except receiving the students'appreciation..The gifts you received just a manner of their love to you.lol good luck.

It depends. If a student has given you a gift as a bribe or something, then you shouldn't accept it. If there is an occasion like Christmas, you may accept the gift. You could sense what is the reason why your student is giving you that gift. Maybe he's just generous or he feels like giving you something. You also know how to say no when he is already bribing you. But most of the students are sweet. Most of the time they give you their own drawing on a piece of paper :)

If it is a Teacher's Day, I think all the teachers can accept their students' gifts. But at others day, I don't agree. The mony for buying the gifts is not earned by themslves but their parents.Sometimes some students didn't do it by their heat but the monitor asked.Sometimes they do it not for appreciating their teachers but for hoping teachers were kind to them. That is my opinion,if you think you are a good teacher ,you can accept it withou any hesitation.

Yes, teachers should be able to accept gifts given to them by their students, as long as the student is not asking for a better grade in return. I have seen many really good teachers that are given gifts from their students and even from the parents of their students. This just shows that you're very good at what you do and they are showing their appreciation. If the student has been doing bad in the class then it could be a bribe, but most of the time it's the students who really will miss you that give presents. You must have done something really special in their lives. You are an inspiration to me since I'm working towards being a teacher also. Good Job!
