Too much time thinking and not enough time doing

Why do I do it? I have lots to do and half the time I spend thinking about what needs to be done instead of actually doing it. It's like a mental list that I keep running over in my mind, but then I realise nothing is coming off of the list, and I have to give myself a shake and get motivated. I have even gone through all the things I need to do mentally, and realise that while sitting there doing that, I could have physically done half of what was on the list! Not that there is anything wrong with thinking, I just need to get the balance right.

Finally! It's great to know I'm not the only one who does this! Sometimes thinking about all there is to do becomes overwhelming, and nothing gets done. I have one clutter pile that I get rid of now and then, but it seems to grow again in a flash. Sometimes I think the laundry baskets ae so full because the clothes must be making babies when I'm not looking. Then I realize that thing on the to-do list has been there entirely too long, and it's frustrating. I always think I can finish whatever I'm doing a lot faster than I actually can, which adds to the problem. ={ Too bad we can't think up a way for the chores to do themselves!

Thanks for the "best response". Now, did I hear anyone offering to come here and clean it all up for me?

Glad to be of use! ;) I know that one over the laundry pile. And as for the ironing one, well don't get me started. Clutter is my middle name I think, and the idea of a 'Chore Fairy' is just great! The frustration bit I can relate too as well. Especially when I realise that there are 2 or 3 things on the 'to do' list, that all need doing like yesterday. That is when I start panicking. Thanks for the best response! ):)

I also think write down the important part, and do something most important first, than less important.and caculate the time you need to finish it.to see the result per day and change it balance.

Thanks for replying. A good answer here. I do try to do at least one of the most important things each day, as this makes me feel like I have achieved something. It is all the not quite so important things, or where everything seems as important as each other where I come unstuck. :)

It's okey to think about what you gonna do tonight tomorrow etc.. But it's not okey to live in tomorrow... I had the same case before, not until I met buddhism... It's like living in the now... You plan your live but be sure that you don't live in your dreams because if you did, you will end up thinking up on tomorrow without doing anything today... In short, Live TODAY but continue nurturing yourself by thinking about tomorrow... LIVE TODAY.. Just do it NOW... Just Now... Think of Now...

Wow thanks for your answer. That has given me some food for thought. I shall take some note of this. Never really looked too much into buddhism, but I do like some of the buddhist ways and the words of wisdom. Thanks again :)

it happens to me to. i get overwhelmed with a need to do too much too soon, that it makes me feel paralyzed...i dont know what to start on first or where to start first. you need to get organized...create a schedule...do little by little until it is done, maybe put some relaxing music on in the background or do it while watching your favorite tv shows. so that ur mind will be on something else and you dont feel the tediousness of it. that is what i do...i just realize that i need to just do it...

Hi I try to do that too. It's just hard sometimes when juggling home, being mum and 3 jobs and a college course. Sometimes it gets to the point where it seems that everything needs to be done like yesterday. I am doing my best though to organise myself more though and I like the little by little advice. Thanks :)

Yeah. I been in that situation before. I have so many things to do. So many plans but nothing is done. Sometimes, doing is a different thing than thinking. But now i change that attitude. I do things one at a time.

Thats a good method, I shall try. One at a time. I suppose this way I will feel like I am achieving something rather than nothing. Thanks :)

Hehe, I have that problem too - the tasks will run round and round in my mind, while I put up mental lists - and seldom/ never got them done, or have forgotten what I've listed down. So now I'd write them now, a sort of a things-to-do list. It keeps me organised, and I feel better, having gotten some of the jobs out of the way.

:0 Glad to see I'm not the only one. Hope you manage to stick to them after you have written them down. Sometimes, I can't even manage that! I really must get more organised Thanks for the reply :)
