When I go to flea markets or yard sales, I will usually pay the price they are asking because it is usually quite fair. Occasionally, though, I think a piece is overpriced and will bargain.
I learned my technique from buying a car. I was told my payment goal could be reached when I spoke to a salesman over the telephone. Once I got to the dealership, I was told to sit in the sales office and the salesman would be right back. After waiting about 10 minutes, I gathered up my things and got ready to leave. The salesman ran over to me and said he would be with me in just a minute. He knew I was getting upset and ready to leave but didn't want to lose the sale.
Then he said my payments would be almost twice what I wanted. I said I couldn't do it and began to leave. That made the salesman come down in his price. Again, I told him that I could get a better deal somewhere else and the salesman came down again in his price.
So, I've learned that if you show interest in something but tell them you wouldn't pay that much and start to leave, they usually will come down in their price because they don't want to lose a sale.
At least, it works for me! I have done that at the flea markets I've gone to and it works every time!

You are not alone. I am equally bad at bargaining and somehow dislike it. I tend to la d up arguing on this to prove my point. I would rather go a fixed price place and buy something without having to bargain on it and save a lot of my time.

Hello,Xialinye! I never bargain the price of a commodity because I always purchase the materials from the wholesale market and genuine dealers who sale their commodities at reasonable price and they never allow bargaining.usually question of bargaining comes in the vegetable market where i do bargain the price of certain things and if they agree i purchase the desired items.thanx.

I'm not good at it at all, but my husband is really good at it. If I try, it usually ends up that the clerk or whoever I'm dealing with doesn't have the authority to do any kind of bargaining, so I'm wasting my time.

In fact I am afraid of barginning each time when I go shopping. Each time when I go to a shop I want to buy the things I want cheaper but I am always persuaded by the salesmen/salewomen to buy the goods at its marked price.I am really upset about it but can't do anything to change it.Hahaha...

I usually don't even try. I feel for the most part I am getting a good deal. If I want it cheaper, I go elsewhere or wait until it goes on sale. I am trying to be more of a conservationist, so mass consuming, even at a discount is painful for me. I have enough crap to dump in the landfill when I die.

I can try but it is not as accepted of a practice here! I wish it were. I do it sometimes and the person usually says ok if it is not to much difference. it is easier to say, I only have such and such amount of money with me and see if the person really wants to make the sale!

I think you need a bit of confidence but also a bit of banter as you need to chat to the clerk and reduce the price. Remember if you feel guility that all the goods in shops are priced to make a huge profit for the shop and they can sell for less and you get a good deal and so do they, maybe not as much as at full but a lower priced sale is better than none.
