im a nursing graduate, and there's a lot of nurses out there, is it really their calling, or just using it as a ticket to work abroad and make a good life.

there are lots of people nowadays who would prefer to take up nursing maybe because its in demand... maybe at first, they don't know the real essence of it but eventually they'll realize how important being a nurse is.. it's still your own choice if you'll still make it a noble job or not... we can't deny the fact that its a ticket to work abroad.. we are facing great crisis today and we need to feed our families... going abroad doesn't mean that its not noble anymore... you're still helping other people.. bottom line is, it's your personal choice to make it noble...

mercy and service are nobility's true badge, if many nurses think nursing is just a ticket for greener pastures, then is nursing still a noble job?

as what you've said, mercy and service are nobility's true badge.. it doesn't mean that if you're going to other countries, then you're not noble anymore... you're still serving other people.. it's just that you're not in your own country... but, service and mercy are still there.. you can still call it noble..

I believe it is still. But the people behind the title, I don't know. It's not bad to dream or aim for something you want. It's good to do something that is part of you or a passion but we can never blame them if they want to use that profession to uplift their situation. After all, like you, they worked hard for what they have achieved.

thanks for the response, but the teachings of nursing now is not for the service of humanity, i've seen nurses disrespect their patients especially in public hospitals, how they degrade and discriminate the people who are not well educated and financially compensated.

It really varies. There are nurses that do their jobs for a noble cause and I have praises for them most especially those who stayed here in the Philippines. It is also a fact, that nurses here in the country are not that well compensated and this is one of the compelling reasons why a lot of nurses wanted to have a share of good life and thus resort to work abroad. Yes it could be a ticket to work abroad when you're a nurse but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is not a noble profession anymore. It really depends how a nurse can make his/ her profession a noble one whether in his/ her own country or in another country.
