How do people live with themselves?

I really don't understand how some people can do evil and cruel things. I was just reading this article on aol about a mother that waited a month to report to the police that her daughter was missing. How on Earth can anyone do that? I am always upset when I hear or see bad parenting but this one takes the cake! How does a mother live knowing that she could have helped harm her child or that she could have done something to help her child and didn't?? This makes me so very mad!! Here's the article if you wish to read it. http://news.aol.com/article/grandma-says-mom-knows-who-has-missing/58795?cid=12

If only we would educate the public more than we currently do. It is so sad that children are hurt. Thanks for responding.

I find things like this astonishing. It seems fairly basic to report things like a missing child - I mean, what else do you do. I hope that there is more to this story - some sort of reason or justification that makes sense.

I don't understand people sometimes. Crap like this makes me embarrassed to be human. I don't think the woman refuses to call the police because she was in 'shock' or anything. It's sad to hear what people do every day.

I don't think that shock was a part of it because as a parent myself, if my child was missing the police would have been called as soon as I knew my child was gone. Thanks for responding.

It's pretty sad to see how some people would treat their own child no better than missing sock... I remember about a month ago, reading a story in a local newspaper that a grandfather who was baby sitting a child, went out to a store with a baby in the back seat, forgot that he had the baby, went into a store, spent 2 hours in the store while it was over 95 degrees outside... Child ended up dying because inside the car went well above 100... Some people just shouldn't be in charge of kids...

I get so upset when I see and hear things like this. It is really sad. I know that I would always do anything in my power to help my two children and I can't understand how some pareents can actually harm their children. I have a son that is mentally challenged, and at times he will repeat the same word for hours, it gets frusterating and sometimes I yell at him to stop. Then he looks at me with a loving smile and I feel so guilty for yelling at him. So it just blows my mind to hear that parents actually can cause harm to their children. I just don't get it, but it does anger me as well.

If that would happen to me i would be freaking out by this time because i love my daughter so much.I could never forgive myself if something happen to my daughter. As the saying goes we even not let the flies touch our child when they were still babies. But then we can never know her reason for not telling the authorities about her child being missing since she refuse to talk .I hope and pray that the girl is okay.

I think that the people who commit these curel acts are actually mentally ill. There are all kinds ouf mental illnesses out there that can explain why people do the weird things that they do. Then again, there sre so many out there that I think it's hard o define "normal" As far as I am conered, "normal" is a person who kows right from wrong. I wonder if entironmental factors are affecting people mentally, or if we are just more aware these days.

This is the strangest, most disgusting case I've ever heard of! I first saw this story on TV the other day and none of it makes any sense whatsoever. They said the mother and child live with the grandmother but in that case how did the grandmother not know the little girl was missing for five weeks? They said the mother had dropped the child off with a babysitter and when she went to get her she wasn't there but she chose to find her on her own rather than call the police. Today I heard her mother thought she was working but she hadn't worked where she said she did for a very long time, they may have said for a whole year. Apparently the mother has been arrested and the grandmother has said she should be released so she could help with the investigation. WTF?????? I hate to appear to be passing judgment on anyone but I have to say, I'm a grandmother and if I'd called or gone to see my daughter and asked to see or talk to my two year old granddaughter and my daughter gave me excuse after excuse why I couldn't, I'd have lost it and taken hold of my daughter and DEMANDED to see my granddaughter! The only good thing I've heard in this case is that when they searched the yard thinking they'd find a body there they didn't, thank God! Annie

I just don't understand that at all! My mom would kill me herself I'm sure. If she calls my house and it's quiet she is like where are the children. I just don't believe too much of what "grandma" is saying. Like you said, you would ask, why didn't this woman? This is the first I heard of this and it just really upsets me so much! Thanks for responding.

I am a simple man and I keep my life simple by taking care of my own life. It is difficult enough without me poking my nose into other people's lives. There are billions of people and I could not possibly solve their problems which are way bigger than mine. How people live with themselves is a question I leave to brains bigger than mine. Cheers!!

Thanks for responding. I think mostly these types of news articles pull at the heart strings of women because most of us have given birth and it is difficult to understand.

I just could not imagine that. I dont know what the mother was thinking. My daughter went out to run one night and she ran out the door before I could give her my phone. I was a basket case when he wasnt back in 30 minutes. She is only fifteen. I went out and drove around for twent minutes, up and down, round and round. I got home and was about to call the poluce when se drove up with a friend, who lives close buy. She sai a car with two boys started to follow her so she got scared and went in her friends house and was giving them time to leave in case they were still out there. I was so happy to see her and angry with her she didnt call frome her friends house. She did understand my worry as she experienced whar I was worried about. At least in her mind she did. The two boys may have been innocent but maybe not. Its just not safe out there any more.

your daughter did the right thing by going to a friend's house where she was safe. yes, it's sad she was probably so upset she didn't think to call. i wanted to post this here, right now. if you are in a car and someone is following you. don't think you can out run them. and further, if you drive home they know where you live. if you go to a restaurant, you still need to exit your car. go to the nearest emergency room and stay in the car and lay on the horn. there are always security guards in the emergency room.

i don't know either. not that this is an excuse but something more could be going on with the person she thinks took her child. that person may have some kind of control over her emotionally or mentally. we don't know what kind of irrational thots she has been entertaining. regardless she should have called the police.

I am a mom myself and even if I know where my kids are I still worry and call their friends parents if they are even 10 minutes late! Quite a few people say that I worry too much but, my kids are the heart of my life and I would go crazy if something ever happened to them. Sometimes my kids even think that I am overbearing but, I explain to them that anything could happen to them in this day and age. I don't understand how a mother could wait a month to report her child missing. I also agree that the police or even social services should report some type of neglect on her. Maybe even life in prison or something along those lines. +

there is no way a child at that age goes missing and you as a mother does not just freak out.. and even more not report it. they need to keep the mother locked up until the truth comes out

I have to agree, it is horrible. I mean there is no way that there is even an acceptable excuse for her behavior because the girl is only 2 years old and not a teenager! Not that it would be ok even if the girl had been a teenager but it might possibly be a bit easier to understand but not now. And the lawyer has the nerve to say that she is a good mother with no history of being a bad mother! OMG, you know that there had to be signs that this psycho was a bad mother but everyone ignored them. And I'm sorry, that grandmother is guilty too as far as I'm concerned. The whole situation just shows how gross and disgusting that family really is!

Bravo! Well said. I have to agree completely because I have a mentally ill sister and she is so ill that sometimes my parents have to call the police on her. Thank God she doesn't have children and doesn't have any interest in children! Thanks for responding!

Yes it is. I just read in the paper yesterday that the police searched her car and found some of the girl's hair in the trunk, and that a dog picked up on a smell of decomposition. Thanks for your response.

Hello ZephyrSun, I don't understand it at all, there are some women can never have children and they long for a child and yet some people do this sort of thing its beyond meWhat was she thinking of, doesn't he know that her child was missing? No I can't understand them. Tamarafireheart.

It is so sad that someone could do this and what makes it so bad is that she seems like she doesn't care at all because she waited a freakin month to report the child missing! Thanks for responding.

A sad story and the girl is so unfortunate. From my own perspective, every parent has the obligation and duty to take care of their children. In turn ,their children will pay back them. I cannot accept crude parents.
