This was taken on my trip to a local Zoo and Conservatory here in St Paul Minnesota. It is a Lotus and from the sign it is Lotus Denata. I searched and could not come up with this variety on the wreb. But this is in an outdoor area that has maybe 50 species of water plants and flowers in long narrow ponds. I want to start a water pond for the spring and summer but the funds are out of reach right now. Do you have a water pond? What types of plants/flowers do you have? If not, do you plan on making one in your yard anytime soon? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That's beautiful! I would love to have a little pond/waterfall but I'm not sure how to take care of it in the winter. What I would really love is a koi pond but I think they take a lot of upkeep and would freeze in the winter. I would like to have a fountain in my back yard, too. Maybe next year, when I get the yard the way I want it, or at least close to it.

http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_design_water_features/0,1784,HGTV_3575,00.html Search around the HGTV site. You may get some answers to this. As long as there is running water it should not freeze most times I think. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My friend has a koi pond. In the winter she brings the fish inside to a nice sized aquarium.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! It would be wonderful to have a water pond and have some aquatic flowering plants on it. However, I don't think we are going to have one at the moment because we don't have the funds for it either. haha..But it would really be great to have one in the garden. Take care and God Bless!

I have rose bushes in front of my place. I have a hard time with heat so anything more than that is hard for me to keep up. I'd like to put more flowers in though, just to pretty it up a little bit.

A pond is really nice. My mom has at home. Its not that small because she has 5 water lilies. We don't have winter season so that season is really not a problem. But we have rainy days and these days it brings flood to her pond. My mom would usually go down the pond and gather each plant. She put in a big flower pot then when the flood goes down, she'll return them one by one and patiently washes the mud in the flowers and in the leaves. Doing those things are tiring for me but for my mom who loves those flowers, its a joy that they are doing great even after the flood. Hope you'll be able to build you own pond soon. Take care =)

Hie Grandpa Bob, I always love lotus flowers, so pure and divine but I have not come across this species before. It is indeed beautiful and so mesmerizing My brother moved to a new house about a year ago, I did suggest to him about a water pond with flowers like that and fishes. But he said it will take up a lot of time to take care of the pond and will breed mosquitoes too. So my mum and him been planting roses, cacti and other flowers instead. I have seen lotus in the wild in a water pond years ago when I was a teenager near a cave temple of Goddess 'Kuan Yin'. It was such a pretty sight. The closest contact recently that I had with any lotus is the lotus rootwhich my mum made into a tasteful dish of soup. Cheers and thank you for sharing the lovely picture.

We do not have a water pond except out cement pond we swim in. heehee. I have always wanted to have a pond but I seem to not want to comment to the work of keeping it clean and well taken care of. I also have one cat that would eat all the fish out of it I am sure.
