Do you read responses before you respond?

Sometimes it just annoys the heck out of me when I post a discussion and all the responses are the same advice. Someone will offer advice and I'll comment and say "Oh, I can't do that because..." and then all the responses after that are the same advice. "See response #1". Geez!!! If I am searching for discussions to respond to on Mylot, I will at least read the first page of responses, and perhaps add to another response if I feel the same way. For friends discussions that I recieve via e-mail, I don't normally read other responses until after I've posted, unfortunatly I haven't figured out how to view the discussion without responding without coming to Mylot and searching for it.

Well if I am on myLot and answering to discussions that way then yes I do usually read them first. But most of the time I am getting to discussions via email and so I cannot see other responses until I have responded, which makes it a bit hard. So I do apologise if I say something the same as someone else I do not mean too xx

I rarely get annoyed at my friends if they do it, because I understand they can't read all the responses, as I do the same thing as you.

I don't go through and read every page of responses, but I do try to read the responses on the first page. I sometimes have something to add to what someone has already said and sometimes I have something else to add so I will start my own response.

I'm with you, I won't go through every page of responses if there are more than one, but I will at least read the first page of them.

Well, if I am rushing, I do not really read the other responses anymore. Most of the time, I am doing some myLot activities under time pressure. I have a lot of things to do that's why. But when the topic is really interesting and I would like to know how others responded to those discussions, I would take some time to read other responses before I post mine.

If I were under a time crunch, I think I'd post less, but more quality discussions. But that's just me, I never pay attention anymore to how much I'm actually posting, I just enjoy my time spent on here. Thanks for responding.

While I do read them, sometimes they're not there at the time. What I mean is that others may have posted more quickly, with the same thing I was writing, but neither of us knew the other was doing it because they were posted at the same time.

That happens to me at times too, but I am not referring to those situations that aggrevate me. It's when the first post has been posted for some time, and someone else posts much later with the same thing.

I have only been here for a couple days and yes I do see what you mean. I think the problem is that so many people are so eager to get in so many posts that they just dont take the time to do things properly. A place like mylot can be and is very valuable in so many facets. I love it for so many reasons but yes darnit people have to start using it properly. Dale

And that's the truth. Too many are more concerned with # of posts that they don't take the time to make sure they're giving half way decent advice. Some days I can just shrug it off, but other days it really bothers me. I guess today is a day that it bothers me.

Ya, ofcourse i respond by reading the responses. Without reading the responses if we respond it creates confusion and sometimes we may respond meaninglessly. It's difficult to respond without responses. If we read responses correctly, we can respond them correctly and we can expect what type of respond they are expecting from us.

Yes, I would read the responses before I respond, but not all of them, I usually only read the first page, and will read more if I am in a dilemma with the response.
